where do I even start?

It's been busy...a sort of happy kind of busy, which is good, given that it is the holidays. The gift distribution has been moving right along - there's only two more batches to give, which I have scheduled for Friday, as the recipients are located within the same area as the place where I am to pick up the Christmas ham.

Today the Christmas lights and lanterns went up, therefore the front of the house is dressed for Christmas. Just a week and a little before my birthday, yayz! Tomorrow I will dress up the windows, and package the last bunch of gifts for distribution. Need to order the pancit and buy the soft drinks for the maintenance crew.

Budget will be a little bit tight - again - this Christmas. *sighs and shrugs* Ah, well. Recovery always takes longer than getting sick; for sure by this time next year things ought to look somewhat better. In the meantime, I rejoice in what has been accomplished and continue to hope for more.

What else. *thinks* I had something in the back of my head, but it's gone now. Oh! Yes! Am getting used to working with the netbook, now that the laptop has died yet again and I am thinking that spending to get it fixed might just be throwing good money away. At least I made a backup of all the data the day before the thing died, so that's one very good thing right there.

Am considering getting a desktop to be my new Linux machine. One Windows machine is enough, seeing as how it's needed for the scanner and the internet dongles that allow me to be online when I'm out. All I need is the CPU and a good monitor, basically. I don't even need the optical drive option, since I have two DVD/CD drives and one CD drive in the house. I will need USB ports for the mouse, keyboard, printer, and optical drive at minimum. The laptop had five USB ports plus various others.

Thing is, desktops are usually sold as sets, especially if you want to get a new setup on installment. Which would render a variety of things redundant, such as the mouse and keyboard. Clearly some investigation is in order, so will end up mastering the nuances of WinXP once again. No, I will not spend to upgrade to Windows 7, thanks much - what, and risk borking a system that works? HA.

So that's it for the moment. All is fairly well, and I'm good with it.

Am really curious about those compact micro cpus. Looking forward to the fruits of your investigation.
