The rain came and went...and back again
Popping up from real life to jot down a few things. Not much has been happening of note; the family is well, humans and felines alike. The running of the house has settled into an easy pattern, and of late my body has been demanding sleep at regular intervals. I have surrendered to its demands on those occasions when my eyes simply refuse to stay open after lunch, and as a result am fairly awake in the quiet hours of the night - at least until midnight or one in the morning, depending on how engrossed I am in the online world.
Had the maintenance crew in on Monday and Wednesday. The following events transpired during their visits:
- the seat on Ramon's rocking chair (aka THE TV Chair) has finally been fixed up. it now sports a plywood seat instead of metal wiring beneath the seat cushion.
- all three insect lamps came down for cleaning and installation of new bulbs as necessary
- a new 24W CFL was installed in the laundry area, and now there is LIGHT. Major major illumination now.
- the mini-fridge was brought out for defrosting, and returned to its proper place
- the plug out on the lanai was replaced
- the Christmas decor/Christmas wrapping boxes were brought down, as well as other assorted storage for the culling of packaging belonging to things already disposed
Little things, but things that matter. Have started giving out the Christmas tip envelopes to the bill messengers as they arrive, as well.
Have placed the order for Christmas baked goodies for various people, for pickup on Sunday.
Made some small progress in the knitting of the legwarmer. *bounce*
Managed to convert more of Ma's music into MP3 format, and loaded same into her Walkman, for her listening pleasure. Which reminds me that it will need charging soon.
Strongly suspect that body's desire for sleep may be its way of wanting to recover from the stress of dealing with domestic upheavals related to domestic help. Now that we have responsible warm bodies about to help with cooking and cleaning, life is a) calmer, b) cleaner, c) relatively stress-free. Life's very good.
Have been monitoring all manner of news. I do think one of life's enduring mysteries is why the Department of Tourism has to toss out a perfectly good slogan in favor of something that, if we are to believe the ad agency, was presented as a compre/rough study in the first instance. The thing wasn't even backed up by market research, allegedly. So now an Undersecretary has resigned, and the "soft launch" (which looked like a proper product launch to my untrained eyes) has become a fiasco. Not quite the publicity looked for, I imagine.
...
To the growing pantheon of shows from my youth that are being revived, please add The Green Hornet movie. Have seen the trailer, and while I think Seth Rogen will have to grow on me, the guy who's stepping into Bruce Lee's shoes has definite possibilities.
I missed The A-Team movie, will have to fish it out of the video library. At least, I think we have a copy. After having been traumatized with what happened to one of the characters in the S.W.A.T. movie, I now approach revivals with a fair amount of caution.
Thankfully, the Star Trek reboot was everything my fangirl heart ever wanted, which was an excellent thing altogether.
Hawaii Five-O, on the other hand, is a delight to watch. Not to be compared to Jack Lord and the original cast, because a) whole other era, and b) frigging Jack Lord, people! But in its own way, full of squee-worthy moments. Especially the way McGarrett and Danno are quite the old married bickering couple...*chuckle*
I see that Warner Brothers is making an updated Buffy sans Joss Whedon participation. I do not think this will end very well, even if the movie can stand up on its own merits, if only because the fans are still too close to the series to put up with tinkering of any sort, by anyone other than the series creator.
As the soap operas would say, stay tuned for the next installment! And on that note, I'm off to bed. See you when I see you!
