There was a condo blessing last Wednesday
(Signed into Twittinesis via OAuth on Twitter. Hopefully November's tweets will find their way into the archive blog now.)
So my favorite cousin in all the world, Cousin Gerry, calls up to give me the directions to his condo unit out at Park View Towers at Eastwood Mall. We were all bidden to the blessing/housewarming of same last Wednesday.
This, of course, meant that the purchase of a housewarming gift was in order. This was accomplished on Tuesday, the day before the occasion, after dropping off Ma's physical therapist off at her jeepney stop at Alphaland. Toodled over to SM Makati - don't remember if we had lunch at the Glorietta Food Court or the SM Food Court, but it was a good lunch - and then I went roaming over the housewares section looking for an appropriate gift. It was also an exercise in willpower (as in, "We do not have the money or the space or the need....") as the home furnishing gene is strong in me, and all the shiny stuff just draws me.
Figured some sort of decor for the living room would make a nice gift. When my eyes lighted upon the display of "lucky" bamboo plants, Ramon agreed it would be the perfect thing. I've got a picture of it around somewhere, will have to upload it some time...*cue crickets* So walked away with the bamboo plant in its little red pot (I had to pay for the box too - much to the surprise of the cashier and sales people, who said the box ought to have come free with the plant), showed it to Ma when we got home, and that was that.
Fortunately the weather was fairly clear when we set out for Eastwood. Nearly forgot the gift (!!!!) but luckily we were only a block or two from the house, so it was an easy matter to turn the car around and get it, accompanied by Dad's grumblings all the way. Traffic was good to us, and we got to Eastwood in good time, considering that the parents started dressing up at around 1.30pm and we left the house at 2.30pm to get to the place by 3.30pm.
Had a bit of a time figuring out where to drop off the parents, but it turned out all right, even if Ma had to walk a little through the mall, at least she got to see some of it. I remain convinced that she should use the walker instead of just a cane in an unfamiliar mall, but she doesn't agree. Ah well, at least it was a short walk and there was a place to sit for a few minutes, and all was well.
Got up to the condo without any fuss, Cousin Gerry welcomed Ma with dramatic flair and open arms, and we were urged to indulge in the good eats. I presented our gift, which was welcomed with many thanks. We were given the short tour of the unit - two bedrooms, one bath, maid's quarters, kitchenette and living/dining room. Very pretty, and the view from the 37th floor is something awesome. There were relatives and friends, and Ma found a cousin in the small group and was soon happily chatting away.
I indulged in the good eats, since I am that comfortable with Cousin G to have no shame altogether. There was Savory chicken, arroz caldo, turon, lumpia shanghai, empanadas, pancit malabon, and so forth. Special mention must be made of the mango mousse thing that was TO. DIE. FOR. It was hand-made, not commercial. It was this confection of mango slices, cream, and graham crackers...a refrigerator cake, and just too delicious for words. Played waiter for Ma, holding court in the middle of various relatives.
Dad, being Dad, took his chance at conversation with Cousin G to ask things like how much he got the condo unit, what he was planning to do with it, and stuff. As I understand it, the unit will be a rental property, since Cousin has another set of digs in Tandang Sora, QC, which for the moment is his main headquarters.
We left shortly after six, and the traffic was kind to us again. Ma liked seeing all the lights, and we have plans of making an "illuminations tour" of Makati and various places come Christmas time. Got home to find everything settled for the night, and all well.
