Recovering
Not that I've been sick, or anything - just feeling overwhelmed by
circumstances for the past month or so. The heatwave didn't help much
for my state of mind, either. However, the weather appears to be
turning, and with the advent of the rainy season, things seem to be
taking a turn for the better. Fingers crossed, as it is early days
yet.
I had stuff to vent, but now that I've got the blank page on which to
vent, everything's gone off somewhere. *shrug* So let's start with
general updating, and maybe things will sort themselves out.
We have a new cook. We gave the last cook our best shot for the
better part of six weeks, but Ma really couldn't get over how
off-putting Cook's general attitude was. (*chuckle* Doesn't that last
part sound like old-school address, like "Nanny"?) So yesterday, after
dropping off Ma's physical therapist, and lunch at Pepper
Steak/Alphaland, Ramon and I drove up to Kamias, Quezon City, to look
over a new cook. Her name is April, she's 21, and seems a sensible
enough young woman. We engaged her, gave the old cook her notice (or
rather, Dad gave Cook notice after I called from the employment
agency), and now our staff is young and fairly industrious. With a
little training and a regular schedule of reminders, we may have a
smoothly running household in short order.
As it is, I'm not sure if it's the changing weather, cyclical hormonal
surges, or just the prospect of a properly run house; but I have been
sleeping very soundly over the past two days. Ever since typhoon
Basyang left us, in fact. I think I wrote in my last entry that
watching the stormy weather blow in was a cathartic experience
somehow. I seem to have a more optimistic view of the world somehow,
and that's good. With any luck, I can go back to writing and
finishing up stories that were left hanging. Not to mention get back
to projects that were started with good intentions and are now also
hanging.
It is to be hoped that my financials will see some sort of improvement
before August comes. On the other hand, as I told hubby, I've seen so
many of my ships blown out of the water, that I'm afraid to make
concrete plans about anything on mere expectations. I've learned to
take my opportunities where I find them, rather than plan ahead - less
disappointment that way.
In other news...kittens, both home-grown and rescues, are growing up
strong, healthy, and affectionate. They are loved, and they know it -
Pitter-cat, especially. Fail to attend to his hunger within 30
seconds, and he will embrace your leg and do the OM NOM NOM on it
until he sees the food-laden plate. Pickles-cat, as the only girl
among six boy-cats, holds everyone off by emitting threatening sounds
and swatting anyone who comes near while she's eating - up to and
including her elders. Tsk!
Right now, it's a typical Saturday afternoon. Bright, quiet,
everyone's resting, the house feels content. I've got the radio
playing Crossover 105.1, which is the kind of music I like best -
light jazz always soothes me. Don't feel the need for a nap, but I'll
be closing here to take a look at other things I could be getting a
move on.
