I Am Curious - Yellow

Have been looking at my Twitter feed and two things are niggling at my brains:

1) OK, I understand that there has been massive abuse of "wang-wangs"
(translated: police escorts with blaring sirens/police flashing
lights) by various officials and their hangers-on. But I find it just
a little ridiculous when the President is late for meetings because he
won't avail of a noisy police escort. I mean, it is one of the
privileges of the office, that the President is allowed a police
escort in order to get him from one place to another with a minimum of
delay. Not to mention the idea of a President sitting like a brooding
hen in traffic probably gives the PSG (Presidential Security Group,
the equivalent of the US Secret Service) the willies.

Of course, the escort need not use those irritating sirens. Police
lights are usually enough to give most motorists pause on the highway,
surely? Alternatively, he could leave for his appointments earlier,
in which case, maybe Malacanang should invest in refitting a tourist
bus to act as a mobile office, the better for the President to have
staff meetings while sitting in traffic? No, seriously, why not?
Complete with bulletproof glass and armor-plating.

2) Also, I get that a whole lot of people don't like Binay, for a
variety of reasons. I'm not really sure what his complexion has
anything to do with whatever shenanigans he is alleged to have
perpetrated, though. So he's as dark as seasoned mahogany wood -
therefore? So he's short - thus? Our local officials are *supposed*
to be elected according to their track record and perceived capacity
to deliver, not their looks.

As it is, actions speak louder than words, and one week after being
sworn in, Binay is making his presence felt in ways that having
nothing to do with height or complexion. And commentary on said
actions, of the "keeping them honest" kind, are always good to hear.

I don't know. I'm just an ordinary citizen here. I don't have the
depth of knowledge to make profound declarations on these two notions
of mine, I just call it as I see it, twisted as it may be.

Anyway, have to drive Ma's physio to the jeepney stop. Catch you all
sooner than later, I hope.

1) i really like that idea about the mobile office. on the other hand, getting the president stuck in traffic at random times of the day should be excellent motivation for traffic enforcers to stay sharp. i'm also sort of holding my breath for DPWH and MMDA officials to get the hint and straighten out traffic for everyone concerned. after all, you never know when and where the president will be passing through.

2) i don't like how binay always looks like things aren't going his way. that's the only thing i really dislike about how he looks; i get suspicious and i feel like he's going to be difficult and uncooperative all throughout noynoy's administration.

apart from that, i'm fine with binay's looks. i've heard about the complexion taunt, but i never knew it was that serious...

My husband thinks that getting rid of the "boundary" system would go a long way to making life better for the commuting public; that and making sense out of the public transport franchises. I don't suppose there will ever be enough buses for all the commuters - really, the SM Makati bus stop is SCARY during rush hour - but surely once we get some discipline going, life has got to get better.

It would be the miracle of the ages if the DPWH and MMDA could get traffic to flow in a decent manner. If that's would be the only good thing to come out of this present administration, it will be worth it. :)
