Goodbye, Sakki-luv...
Sometime during the night, our Sakki-cat left us to join all the other
pets that we have loved and given over to God. He passed quietly in
his sleep, as I hoped, knowing that those he loved and who loved him
were just a miaow away.
I've used up all my tears while he was fading; now is the time to
remember him as I always knew him - as a playful, naughty kitten
peeking out from behind his mama. As a lively young cat who lived up
to the promise of his original name, Sakuragi-kun (after the Slam
Dunk! character), demanding his due in terms of food and attention,
loyal and loving. As an adult who never strayed far from home, always
arriving in time for meals and cuddles. As a senior cat who spent as
much time in our laps as out of them.
Eighteen years is a good long time in cat life. Funny, I remember how
he walked in the house recently to discover Pica's new kittens
(Pitter, Pat-pat, and Pickles) and my fosterlings (Primus, Secundus,
Tertia). He stared at each batch, then carefully sniffed them over,
climbed into my lap and let them play with his tail. All was right
with our worlds at that moment.
The Village security office sent a roving officer to pick up our
darling, and he'll be buried today, maybe near our Pie-cat. Yesterday
I had a strange hunch that when Sakki passed, it would rain - and it
did, because I noticed while waiting for the officer, that the world
had that fresh, renewed feeling when it's been rained on. Plus, the
street outside the house was wet, a sure sign of rain. I'm taking it
as a sign that our Sakki is somewhere kind and loving, once again a
sleek, handsome cat.
We'll miss you, Sakki. We'll be all right, but we will miss you!

I'm glad it was a peaceful passing, at home, without the distress of having to go to the vet to put him to sleep so he wouldn't feel pain.

I am very grateful we didn't have to go to the vet - the mutual distress for him, Ramon and myself would have made driving over to the clinic a very dicey proposition.
I trust my reply to your comment finds you well and prosperous. *hugs*
