RIP, beloved PIe-cat
This afternoon as Ramon and I were sitting down to dinner, the
doorbell rang. I went to answer it, and it was one of the neighbors'
drivers, to tell me that one of our cats had been hit by a car.
I asked him to show me where the cat was - and it was our Pie, my
husband's best friend, the one who follows him all over the house, who
made friends with all the drivers in the vicinity. One of the drivers
was kind enough to bring me a garbage bag so I could carry our baby
home; apparently Pie was crossing the street when someone going too
fast to see him, hit him. They were kind enough to check to see if he
could be saved, since they saw him run, but it was all over by then.
I carried Pie home, crying all the way, and told Ramon the news - he
is taking it very hard, as he does all of our cats' misdaventures, but
Pie was dearest to his heart and he's been sniffling and blowing his
nose ever since. I called village security to come and fetch our baby
(who just turned one yesterday!) and we stayed with the sweetie until
the roving guard came.
My heart is breaking. It's hard enough dealing with the idea of
surrendering the foster kittens - I keep thinking about them looking
for me in the village shelter and my heart aches - and now this. Dad
pointed out that Pica has three kittens, by way of consolation - but
there's nothing to replace Pie-pie, our smart and affectionate baby
cat.
So between this and managing a house with a brand-new maid that has to
be taught everything from scratch, I'll be flying low online for a
while.
*hugs*

I hope all is well in kitty-heaven for her. She knew she was loved. I'm sure of it.
