[Recap Post] April 27, 2010/Tuesday

Busy, busy, busy!

  • Where to begin? OK, the kittens slept like logs the night before,
which was good. They yelled like gangbusters once they realized that
I was up and about - the speed at which they seem to have bonded to me
is something scary, really. Amazing how the volume fell the moment
they latched on to the feeding bottle.

  • So the general plan was to return to AFPSLAI to pick up that
dividend check, then pass by the Village shelter on the way home, to
be in time for Ma's physical therapy appointment.

    • The run up to AFPSLAI was smooth as silk. Ditto for updating
passbooks and claiming the check. Left Ramon in the car to babysit
the kittens, who were as good as gold. *smile*

    • Not so much luck at the Village shelter. The guy in charge said
they wouldn't take kittens so young without their mother, because they
would die. Now, having bottle-raised kittens with a fair amount of
success (Mocha and Latte were even younger than these three when
Brownie their mama died, and look at the fatlings now...), I
understood this to mean that there were no resources available to
provide the care these babies needed, and so I bundled Ramon and
      kittens back into the car.

  • Home just in time for Ma's physical therapy. While the therapist
was working with her, I was able to contact the nice lady who runs the
village shelter - she's actively involved with CARA, one of the
better-known animal welfare groups here. We had a wonderful
conversation, and we agreed that I'll foster the kittens for about a
month, and then she can take them in. So for better or worse, they
are home for the duration, the dears.

  • Dropped our sweet PT off at her jeepney stop at Alphaland - what,
you think we'd let her wait for the Village transport service in this
heat? With the poor child subject to nasal allergies? Of course not,
HDU. *grin* Then back to life as usual, except for the four-hour
feedings required by our new boarders.

    • Ramon had several choice words to say about whoever was so
heartless as to separate kittens from mother before they were even
weaned - and these were well-cared for, FAT, HEALTHY kittens, eyes
open and teething. Then after separating the kittens, leaving them
out on the street to fend for themselves. Personally, I called
whoever it was a turd in my Tweets on the subject. With the mental
reservation that it was doing the actual turd a disservice - at least
real turds are good for fertilizer...
