[Recap] April 26, 2010/Monday
Moving on to Monday's events, where I got a huge surprise in the late
hours of the night:
hours of the night:
- Early morning departure for AFPSLAI to collect Ma's quarterly
dividend check - only the check was not ready. Apparently per new
Central Bank ruling, CB must approve the list/corresponding amount of
checks to be issued. CB returned documentation at the end of banking
hours on Friday. Data was therefore entered into AFPSLAI computers on
Monday morning - which meant BNS branch had no advance prep time.
*harrumphs* Nothing for it but to come back the next day. - So what to do with a beautiful morning whose schedule was shot?
For starters, go over to the Newport City and see what there was to
see. Dad had me drop off him and Ma at the entrance to the Resort
World Casino; the idea was to have some sort of brunch. After I
parked the car and rejoined them, there was some little fuss about
where to find a place to eat that was open.
Poor Ma, she was having
a time of it, with her gimpy hip and all; while Dad wanted to go
explore all over the casino. I don't know, he just seems totally
clueless at times about how much it hurts Ma to get about and walk,
and there he is encouraging her to keep on going. *sigh*
We ended
up in one of the casino buffet places, but since (a) they were going
to open at 11am, and (b) Dad suddenly decided he didn't want to eat
there, we left and went downstairs to the other entrance, the one near
the Marriott, where we should have gone in the first instance.
Dad
wanted to walk over to the Marriott, but Ma - by now tired and cranky
- made it very clear she would have none of it. So I parked her by the
concierge desk and trotted over to get the car. Perfect timing, I
swept up the drive just as Dad rejoined Ma from his roamings. - We did drive up the driveway of the Marriott, but when I pointed
out to Dad that to see anything of the hotel, I'd have to drop them
off and re-park the car, he decided we were better off leaving.
Someday, I'm bringing Ramon there, so he can have a good look
around. - Took a leisurely drive back through Fort Bonifacio and I made the
executive decision to have lunch at Italianni's. *smile* Salad and
pasta carbonara and tiramisu. The pasta needed extra salt...maybe my
tastebuds have altered, I never salted the pasta before. Tiramisu was
good, though. - Drove home through the baking heat of the sun back home, and life
went on as usual until about 9pm. That was when I heard the plaintive
voice of a young kitten looking for food and its mama. Went out to
check the front sidewalk with a flashlight and discovered a month-old
kitten near the telephone pole that marks the property line.
Took
it inside, and as it wailed and fussed, set up the nursing bottle and
a half-milk/half-water solution and watched it latch on like a
trouper. Remembered all the skills I learned about bottle-feeding,
and just I bunged the wee one into the carrier for the night, Ramon
said we ought to do a sweep further up the sidewalk, just in case
there were siblings.
I was doubtful at first, but Ramon was right;
we found two more kittens, all quiet and huddled into balls, halfway
to the corner of our street. Of course they woke up when I carried
them inside, and oh there was much yelling until they were fed and the
little family reunited.
We decided to keep them for the night, and
then try turning them in to the animal shelter here in the village in
the morning.
