Quick recap of previous events
How is it Thursday already? Wasn't I just recovering from last week
two hours ago?
Anyway, I've finished with the morning mail and the feeds at this
point. There's just LiveJournal left now. I'm thinking of doing a
quick archival burn session so that my wee hard drives (160GB is wee,
fancy that now) can accommodate the new files I've been downloading.
The only events that I haven't written up yet are those of last
Friday, when I went to the Ayala Corporation stockholders meeting.
The day started well enough, up until the point where I discovered
that the Avanza battery had gone and died. Dad had been able to start
the car for my benefit the day before, and as I said in my previous
entry, that was the time I should have gone and called Motolite for a
new battery. Except I was getting zombified, and just wanted to throw
my brains into neutral. Which I did.
So, having come to the conclusion that the battery was dead, I hunted
up the number of Basic Taxi and called for the cab. It is quite
gratifying that in the months since I last used their service, they
still have my name and address in their database. The cab arrived at
the house in the stated ten minutes; Ramon and I piled into it and we
reached the Hotel Intercon without further incident. As a matter of
fact, I arrived before the ballroom was even open. So it was that I
managed to enjoy the excellent hotel coffee at leisure while checking
my Twitter and Foursquare readiness.
Found my usual seat near the front row, which gave me an excellent
view of the VIP row. The "boys" (Jaime Augusto and Fernando Zobel de
Ayala, who used to sit on my dad's knee when he was the company pilot)
arrived first, followed quickly after by their sister Sofia and
husband Paxti Elizalde. Then Don Jaime and his wife Dona Beatriz, the
proud parents. I stood when I saw Don Jaime and he remembered me from
previous meetings - given that that's the only time he sees me, it
gives me a nice buzz. I asked him about his recent trip to Malolos to
photograph Nanay Luz, and he explained that it was some sort of photo
essay trip for the young photographers, around the topic of native
handicrafts. Don Jaime had chosen pastillas wrappers, hence, the
photo session with Nanay. This gave me an opening to drop the
information that I was involved with the Women of Malolos, and he
mentioned that the exhibit of his photos will be opening this May.
Guess who will make every effort to be there? *grin*
Kitkat (Fernando's wife) and Lizzie (Jaime Augusto's wife) arrived
seconds before the meeting started, and let me tell you that those
guys BEAMED. They threw the chandeliers to shame with those grins
when they saw their wives sit down - right in front of me. Woot, talk
about love in the air. *grin* Seriously, it's always nice to see
couples get that "glow" when their special person walks into view.
The meeting was as smooth as the Ayala Land one, except for the usual
suspects making themselves heard during the open forum. Now I'm all
for free speech, people, but surely that also means there is a time
and a place to campaign for the Presidency on the platform of changing
our monetary system from the Philippine peso to the Philippine DOLLAR,
and a stockholders meeting cannot possibly be that place. IDEK,
people. The best motion of the day came during the second open forum
(Other Matters), when a sweet old man said, "Mr. Chairman, it seems to
me that we have discussed all the matters relevant to the meeting, and
therefore it is now time to partake of the excellent food and drink
awaiting us. I therefore respectfully move that we adjourn the
meeting." AWW.

I met Ramon after the meeting, and we had lunch at the Glorietta 4
Food Court. Discovered my old love for Piadina food, and now I have an
alternative to World Chicken. *bounce*
Then what was *supposed* to be a window-shopping expedition for a
phone with a QWERTY keyboard, turned into the purchase of this
little beauty that does everything that I want a phone to do. So
the current set-up is my main mobile SIM in the new Corby, the PLDT
Landline Plus in the Cookie (hey! they have their own names!) and the
Sony Ericsson is now my point-and-shoot camera, oy!
Got home via taxi from SM Makati, changed out, set down all the bags,
called Motolite and drank something cold to counter the heat of the
afternoon. The battery arrived, I paid the mechanic, they took away
the old battery, all was well again in the world.
Life went on as usual after that. Ma had physio last Saturday, there
was grocerying last Sunday. Monday and Tuesday at home - no physio on
Tuesday, and the planned trip to Antipolo on Wednesday for our regular
visit to the Virgin of Peace and Good Voyage was cancelled because Ma
had a bad sleep the night before. So three days of rest to balance
three days of activity.
Tomorrow I go window-shopping for Ma's music system. Am leaning to an
MP3 player/speaker or dock combination. Sony by the look of it,
unless I can find a different brand that Ma likes as well. Though she
favors Sony, since it's a brand she knows. Since it's her money, I'll
follow her choice, so that there won't be buyer's remorse later.
*grin*
Though if truth be told, Sony has what I need, based on web research:
a vanilla music player (because seriously, Ma is not going to watch
video on the player, hullo) and a nice sound system at a reasonable
price.
OK. Ma's physio is about to finish. Time to close up the netbook.
