I had a day, but it got eated

Or something to that effect, anyway. I was puttering along just fine
this morning, and then I decided to cross-check my mobile phone
contacts with the hard copy that I keep as a back-up. This idea then
proceeded to eat up just about all the hours in my day, except for the
ones I used taking a nap.

I did manage to run Dad's laundry through the washing machine, so
there's that, too. Also, phone-paid many, many bills - and can meet
the next month with a light heart, as I have money due me in the near
future, which should help sort things out. *bounce*

Yesterday (April 08) was busy - had to take husband and father to
their monthly doctor's appointment. Dad, as usual, got a clean bill
of health. Ramon had lots of good news this check-up: first, his
blood sugar came down from the highs it had been hitting for the last
two months. This means, the threat of insulin shots has been kicked
roundly up the backside. *grin*

Second, he's been taken off his Lanoxin. One less tablet to spend
for, especially since there's no generic equivalent on the market at
this time. Whee!

Got home in time for lunch, managed to get online for a little bit,
then had myself a nap, the better to prepare myself for the night's
events. Since the fun was to be had at the National Sports Grill in
Greenbelt 3, Ramon and I went early, as is our usual custom, to find
the venue and stroll about the mall a wee bit before Ramon headed off
to the movies while I enjoyed myself for the better part of two hours.
We had light snacks at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, where I had a
washroom "moment".

Nothing bad, but definitely interesting - see, Coffee Bean Greenbelt
has a smallish sort of washroom; when I walked in, the ladies' cubicle
was occupied, so I set myself to wait. Hammed it up a bit in front of
the mirror, too. *grin* Then I very clearly heard the voice of the
young woman in the cubicle holding a lively conversation with someone
over her mobile phone. Since my mama raised me right, I tried not to
listen in, but when the convo seemed to go on and on, and the young
lady was heard to say, "Sorry if my voice is blurry, I'm taking a
pee..." (!!!!!) that was the point I left the washroom and told my
husband it was time to mosey on down to the public facilities.
Gracious me, but who holds extended convos in the loo, pray tell?

But on to the festivities! Last night, as those who peeked at my
Twitter feed know, I had a chance to get out of the house and actually
talk to people who share my love for the geek-stuff (among a variety
of other topics). It was the #EasterTweetup arranged by @ssowy over
Twitter, and there was a great mix of people - I think there were at
least 40-50 people in attendance.

I ended up sitting near the registration sheets, and therefore had a
nice time practising my meet-and-greet skills. Ramon, having assured
himself of my safety and general sobriety amid so many new faces,
departed for a ramble and possible movie in the mall. (He ended up in
the food court of Glorietta 4, bless.) I met any number of
people...some of whom I knew from Twitter, others total strangers whom
I am now following.

If I tried to explain just how much fun it was to talk to people who
*get* what I'm talking about...I'd be incomprehensible in about two
seconds flat. So I'll just mention that one of the guys brought his
iPad - and it became The Device What Magnets The Room. Seriously, it
was being passed around from pillar to post, oooohed and ahhhed by all
the boys and girls in the vicinity. What can I say? It's an Apple.
And it is such eye candy your vision will develop diabetes, it is that
sweet to look at. And mind you, that's just the first iteration,
hullo!

Don't think I would make much use of it - I love my laptop with its
Linux Mint, and my netbook with its WinXP, it suits what I want to do.
But for anyone who needs to make presentations on a regular basis?
This baby is something that you will covet with every fiber of your
being. *ebil grin* After I'd had my turn trying not to drool over
the new tech toy, I was looking at people's mobile phones. I got to
see my first BlackBerry, close up - they're right, the form factor is
iconic. Watching iPhones being played by tech-savvy folks is a
delightful thing, and very entertaining.

Am looking into the possibility of supporting local industry by
getting a locally-made phone. Either a Cherry Mobile or a MyPhone
QWERTY keypad. I love my LG Cookie, but feel more comfortable with a
phone that has a keypad, if only for the ease of typing. The idea, if
it works out, is that the local model becomes my main phone, the
Cookie is for my PLDT Landline Plus, the Sony Ericsson becomes my
point-and-shoot camera (it can be done, because I have an expired SIM
that will allow the unit to work, booyah).

Looking forward to about seven months from now, when I pay off the
credit card bill with the largest installment payments. When that
blessed day comes, am thinking of upgrading my cable internet
connection into the package that includes free cable TV. So the
theory is that I get faster speed and free TV...will have to call the
help desk and figure it out with them when then time comes. Another
option is to keep the cable internet at its current speed, and rent
out another Digibox. We'll see.

Hm. I note that the internet is slowing. May as well send this off so
that I can put everything to sleep - including myself.
