This is a post. A what? A post. OH! A POST!
It's been a few days since I dropped in. Last time I wrote, Ramon had gone
in for his blood test, and we spent a fairly happy day at Cash n Carry after
a WOMFI meeting and dropping by Greenbelt to pick up Ma's vitamins.
Since then, I've been happily puttering about the house and online. I signed
up for twitterfeed, so now, the workflow for my blog entries goes like this:
- create entry in Google Mail (which sends post to Dreamwidth, Posterous,
Vox, and Wordpress
- Dreamwidth cross-posts to LiveJournal
- Twitterfeed takes the entry from Posterous and posts a link to Twitter,
Facebook, Friendfeed and Plurk
Yay for convuluted processes! *grin*

I saw most of the Oscars. That's because the telecast was in the morning
here in Manila, right when Ma was having her physical therapy session. My
very personal opinions are of the cursory kind, since (a) I was often
distracted, since I was multi-tasking laundry, (b) I did not see a single
one of the nominated movies.
I enjoyed Neil Patrick Harris' musical number.
I am not so sure about the interpretative dance numbers for the - what was
it? - Best Soundtrack?
I all but cried through James Taylor singing The Beatles "In My Life" for
the In Memoriam segment.
Was there no mention of Haiti or Chile in the entire Oscar shebang?
Um...long commercial break on the Velvet Channel IS LONG. For a moment I
thought they lost the feed!
Katherine Bigelow wins for Best Director, first woman to do so. James
Cameron's EX. OH SNAP!?
Other than that, I do think the recent crop of movies was a good one. Would
like to see "The Hurt Locker", "The Blind Side" and "Precious" at some point
in time.

The fanfic fires are still burning, so I've started returning some old fics
to Mediaminer and FF.net. Took my time over it, though, and anything with
lemons in it will have to go to Mediaminer, as they have provision for such
things. All the "safe for children" fics will go to both archives as well
as my fanfic blogs, which ought to archive all of the story ideas and rough
drafts as well. As I learned from a recent painful experience, online
backups somewhere are always a good thing.
So far, my priority are the fics in the Shadow Skill fandom. There are two
stories in the Slam Dunk fandom that will go up in due course. Have decided
that my prose in those days, purple as it is, cliched as it is, is still
*mine*, and there was much joy in its making, so I'm going to own them and
put them up for public inspection once again.

Dad and Ramon had their monthly check-up, and clean bills of health for
both. Ramon's sugar levels went up a little bit, so we have to tighten up
his sugar intake, because the next step will be insulin shots. To which our
reaction, predictably, is DO NOT WANT. Poor hubby! There's so little he can
enjoy in the quantities that he used to enjoy, and it's hard to contrive
ways to keep him nourished and happy.
We had lunch, the three of us, at the Pepper Steak in Alphaland, which Dad
has been jonesing to see for the longest time. We ran into the eldest
daughter of my cousin (that makes her my neice?) who was having a team lunch
with her officemates at Sterling Paper. Quickly caught up, gave her my
number, then sent her back to her table.
Lunch was good, and on our ramblings upstairs we discovered the branch
office of the dentist at Cash n Carry - and Ramon's dentist! So Dad decided
to get his teeth cleaned, and I left Ramon in the waiting room while I
rambled about the third floor looking through CD-R King and the other
electronic stores.
Then after picking up the menfolk from the dentist, Dad wanted to check out
the grocery, and while rambling around, we ran into one of Ramon's former
officemates, and there was much catching up before she had to go on her way.
Between us, Dad and I picked up enough stuff to qualify for the grocery
loyalty card. Interesting hook - if you buy Php5K worth of things, they'll
deliver the groceries to your door, if you live within a 3km radius. So the
card is in my name, since I'm the official shopper of the family - maybe
I'll go buy all the laundry supplies and things that I used to get from
PriceSmart there...now there's a thought!
Then we went home, to life as usual. Had a little emotional bump at one
point, but a cool shower and a good cry took care of discharging the bad
vibes. Slept well, and things looked a whole lot better in the morning.
= = = = =
I spent all of Sunday being a vegetable. Well, pretty much doing things
that didn't require a whole lot of thinking. The heat is draining, but I am
rather happy with the progress I'm making with the things I've kept on the
back burner. Today wasn't much different...tomorrow I'll be busy, but
that's all for the good, since my main objective tomorrow is to pay bills.
That about does it for the updates. Catch up with all of you soon!

re alphaland: Really hope enough people are coming to let them stay in business. I can't believe there's even a Chef D'angelo.
re groceries: Whoa. 5k. That's a lot of groceries.
re kat bigelow: That's kinda actually nice to know. I just found out too that she's a cougar. And the bf also won something.
re oscars: Er, torrent?

given alphaland's location, i should hope they'd get enough business. more of Mon-Fri traffic, peaking on paydays. gods, when i think of how long that poor building was standing forlorn out there? totally wasted opportunity for capturing the market.
i know there's a torrent for the actual Oscar awards out there, how could there not be? as for the movies, will save up for DVDs. still have a huge backlog of things to watch from -ehem- years ago! :)

I can't say for certain, but ever since I made a determined effort to carve out "me time" writing (aka fanfic!) there is a sort of grounding that has made life seem better.
*giggle* I'm just putting the finishing touches on an old fic and making sure the document is set up properly for uploading. Original story = 3 chapters. New version = 5 (!!!) chapters and I think reads better.
Whee!
