One more sleep before Christmas Eve!
Today marks the completion of the Christmas obligations - the ones that were subject to outside influences, anyway. Amber's Golden Plate delivered the pancit malabon before the people from GMRC arrived to pick it up, which was a good thing. The only thing left are the presents for my goddaughter and her mother - which will, in the fullness of time, be handed off at some point before the bells toll in the New Year. Yes, I am that laid back about it, hush now.
I had this vague plan to sit down and knit and relish another day at home, only a message arrived from Johnny Air that an "envelope" was waiting for pick-up. So, thankfully, since the pancit and soft drinks were all in place, I just had to tell Rose what to do when the GMRC guys arrived. Ramon and I went off in fairly moderate traffic to Aguirre Street (CJV Building, I think it is) to pick up what turned out to be a box of Russell Stover chocolates and a box from the NBA store with two caps. The chocolates, having arrived safely, were promptly devoured after dinner...the caramel nougat was to die for. Pity I totally forgot to take a picture of the box while the choccies were still in it, but there you go.
From Aguirre Street, went to Cash n Carry, totally oblivious to the fact that there was a fire raging in Bangkal. Considering that it was a huge blaze (as per info on Twitter), the traffic was marvelously light to moderate. From Pasong Tamo to Buendia to the South Superhighway, there were only the usual pauses for traffic lights, but otherwise no major stoppages.
At Cash n Carry, bought some last minute stuff: a fruit box, a dozen pouches of the latest Whiskas flavor to hit the shelves (said shelves being woefully bare of the pouch food my cats enjoy), buko juice in tetra paks, Lucky Me Mac n Cheese flavor, a jar of Cheezee. Totally forgot about the eggs, though, and we're down to our last two eggs. *shrug* Ah, well. The family won't suffer much by it, and regular grocery tripping resumes on Sunday. Or Monday. Whatever.
What else. Went home via the scenic route. Which is to say, instead of taking my usual zigzag route through the heart of town, I made a right turn on Filmore coming out of Cash, another right turn on Makiling Street, another right turn into the South Superhighway, and used the Buendia flyover. Straight down the highway, then exited at the Villamor ramp, crossed the severely ancient bridge spanning the highway, whatever it's called; left turn down Pasong Tamo Extension and straight until the corner of Lumbang Road, turn right, and into the gated village I call home. The whole trip took about ten minutes or so, the traffic was that easy.
Dropped off the fruit box at the back neighbor's house. Back home, made sure Mocha did not get locked into the car after he jumped in to inspect what we'd bought; then life as usual.
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and by midnight, I will be another year older. Lots to be grateful for, definitely. Already making plans for making sure the Christmas ham is defrosted, Ma's fruit salad prepared, and pancit (or spaghetti - dammit, I should've bought basil, yes?) at the ready. Will let y'all know how things go!
