Tidying up is a voyage of discovery
Today was totally for staying at home. Staying at home and tidying up as much of the holiday chaos as can be dealt with before the New Year - there is something satisfying about throwing out old stuff and sending usable things to charity. The recycling fair doesn't come up until January, and I refuse to wait that long and watch donations pile up...tomorrow I have to call the Salesians and ask if they can take in our stuff on the 23rd.
The genset has a new cover. This is good. Next year, the maintenance crew comes over to work on making a proper concrete base for the genset, as the original wooden pallet is crumbling due to exposure to the elements. It lasted a fair amount of time, survived Ruping and Milenyo and Ondoy and Pepeng...yup, time to get a concrete base, all right.
Let's see. I also (FINALLY AND AT LAST) organized my jewelry. Remember that one trip to Divisoria I must have mentioned at some point? Well, I bought a bunch of these gauzy drawstring bags; the kind you use to put wedding giveaways in. I had about five colors, and thus was able to color code all the genuine pieces. Thanks to Ma, I have a decent collection of those. I have an even bigger collection of so-called "fashion jewelry", mostly fresh-water pearls and colored crystals in gold-plated settings - the kind you wear to dress up a business suit, or at night for the "smart casual" look. Cleaned and re-purposed the containers that originally held the jewelry, and now the dresser drawer is a beautiful sight. As is the cabinet space where my "fashion accessories" make their home. Ramon had to be re-introduced to the house and car keys, so as not to make him feel that I'm trying to Gaslight him.
After the jewelry - which led to the fix-up of the dresser drawer - I put up the boxes with the Christmas fixings. The unused Christmas packing stuff, the extra gifts. The ornaments that didn't get hung this year.
Then the crafting stuff - knitting needles, glue gun and sticks, cross-stitch frame, cross-stitch sewing box, etc. - moved out of two open baskets into a storage thingy I bought at Japan Home. Said storage unit is actually meant for clothes and foldable items like blankets. Me, I use it to store crafting materials...everything is safe and covered and the transparent top means I can spot what I need right away. Since it sits on top of the bed no one sleeps/reclines in, floor space has just been reclaimed as the baskets are now nested in a space beside my bookshelves.
Put together two postal boxes and arranged all the stuff that's leaving the house for the Salesian Missions. Tomorrow I have to go through the bookshelf and weed out the books I've read but do not qualify as "enduring favorites". This would also include any duplicate titles I may have acquired - one very good reason for me not to buy any new books until I have read through my "books to read" stash. In these times, the knowledge that I don't have to be frustrated by visits to Fully Booked or National Bookstore is a wonderfully liberating feeling, the price of books being what they are.
Changed the filing system around a little bit, and the office space is starting to feel a lot happier. Now when I actually get down to filing the papers, I have no doubt the office space will sing for joy.
Other than that...life as usual. TV with the parents, feeding and loving on the cats (with occasional mediation and disciplinary measures as necessary). Feedly, LiveJournal, and e-mail all current. If tomorrow is another stay-at-home day, then there is a definite nap in there, for sure.
