Graduation blues
Basically, it goes like this. The graduation ceremonies and march is a big to-do here. Should the student be in arrears to the school at the time of graduation, as a general policy, said student is not allowed to participate in the graduation ceremonies. Student gets diploma after paying outstanding amounts due, but being a part of the graduating batch is out of the question. This is a traumatic experience in a country where parents scrimp and save to get their kids through school.
So now we have the background. The concept that broke my brain is this: a school that allows students in arrears to join the ceremonies - BUT - they are not given the invitations that would allow their parent/guardian to attend. Students are graduating out of the lower elementary grades into what would translate to middle school in the States.
*blinks*
Just picture this - a young student participates in graduation ceremonies, but without the person/s they would want most to be there to watch. No one to cheer, take pictures, or all the other stuff that happens during graduation. I...I don't get the point. It might have been better not to let the student join at all?
It's a sad case, though, for the student who would desperately want to have parents at the graduation.
