Birthday blessings

Feeling somewhat off-center today. Hubby took a look at me pouting into space a while back, gave me a kiss, and asked, "Hormones, then?" *loves on hubby*

Did I ever give notice that today was Ramon's birthday? *nods* Yup. The day got off on the right foot with the barangay delivering his free birthday cake (not that he could eat much of it, poor sweet man). Then we took ourselves off to Megamall to have lunch and have a little stroll around the premises.

Stopped at the Petron Dasma first, since we had half a tank of gas in the car. Topped up, then puttered onward to Ortigas in moderate traffic. Once inside the mall, we strolled over to The Atrium and I promptly forgot the way to Pepper Steak. :( Ended up in a place called Gumbo, which had edible food and blatantly faux New Orleans atmosphere. The background music was more Cubano than anything (see, watching CSI:Miami has given me an ear for it), I would have thought they'd have jazz music - Satchmo, "When The Saints Go Marchin' In", and similar. Our server had a sort of Mardi Gras headgear and bead necklaces - I told Ramon about the traditional method of acquiring such things during Mardi Gras, and made him smile.

Tried out a place called Blenz while Ramon did a tour of the realtor stalls along the floor. Blenz was a happier find - it's a coffee shop with a generous amount of floor sockets so that customers can plug in and enjoy the wifi connections without worrying about battery life. I tried out the Bavarian Dark Chocolate, and it was yummy. So unlike Gumbo, we'll probably be going back there again.

Supermarket was our last stop, since there was a grocery list to fill. I rather like the Megamall supermarket on weekdays - wouldn't like to try it on weekends, though.

Got home to discover Ma had the maids cook up spaghetti, because birthdays=noodles of some sort or other. Have used up the parmesan bottled cheese, and next time, I'm planning to get some of that shredded mozzarella in the chiller section. Am beginning to think I should have gotten my hands on a block of the Fontina that was on sale. Drat.

See now, this is what watching cooking shows does to me. I want to buy stuff and make meals for two, so that the family can sample it, and maybe, if they like it, I can expand the recipe and make meals for four. I like to cook - and if it were just for me, it wouldn't really be a problem. But food is meant to be shared, preferably with good conversation around the table.

So there we are. It was a good day, and we are grateful.

Sounds like a good day and you're making me hungry. *G*
