Recap: February 08 - 11, 2009
So now I'm coming up current with the updates. Geez, I hope I don't let things slide this much for a long while...you poor readers! *grin*
Feb 08 - Grocery Day! This time the grocery of choice was Cash and Carry, which meant loads of good times before the actual shopping took place. Brunch at Jollibee, our Sunday tradition complete with morning Philippine Star.
Then, we walked off our meal, and I bought myself a new exerciser. The plastic/rubber parts are red, not black, and it comes with a sort of track pad with guides for the gizmo's wheels so that it doesn't walk all over the floor. I've been getting on it fairly regularly (about 10 minutes a day, or until my knees creak, whichever comes first) and with any luck, by December I will have a better shape than I do now. *grin*
Popped into the HBC store and got myself some creams and things. Have made up my mind to put on light makeup on every day that I need to get out of the house, just so the poor compacts and things get used up before expiry date. *grin* People are noticing - probably because I have found the pockets of time best used for skin maintenance. It's nice to have an interest in self-upkeep once again, I'll tell you that much.
Then I had a lovely massage at the Big Apple Day Spa, where I am now recognized as a regular. Knots and things all worked out of my back, and not a few pops were heard along my spinal column in the process. Mmmm, good. There's a new nail spa next door to Big Apple, which I intend to try once my feet need pampering and fixing up, so that's going to be fun, I hope.
Ramon picked me up after my massage, then we went down to the flea market area. He wanted my opinion on a new shirt that he was considering. It looked just fine on him, and the price was right, so he got it. We tossed all the extra things in the car, and *then* we got started on the business of getting the groceries.
Nothing like having a list when you're in a supermarket like Cash-n-Carry. Not only do you get everything you should get, the temptation to get stuff not on the list is considerably diminished. Thus, we were able to complete our mission with dispatch, and then went home to drop off all the perishable items before heading off to Santuario to refill Ramon's prescriptions.
Feb 09 - Rest Day. Called the barangay and asked if they could pick up the two cartons of books I had waiting for them. Told them one of the cartons was heavy, and they send over *one* security guard, on his motorcycle and not the sidecar! Poor man had to call for backup.
Made an appointment with The Spa at The Mandarin Oriental for me and Mama on the 16th. For Mama, there is no other spa - so she's booked for a massage, and as official travel companion, I am also booked for a head massage and an aromatherapy massage. This is going to be sheer bliss, let me tell you.
Spent most of the afternoon online, once I finished updating the expense log. What with the reading of things and then reading the tabs I opened as I went along, I was still online by midnight, when news of Tiger Woods' new cub was posted on Twitter. *bounce*
Feb 10 - Event of the day was the PLDT Volunteer Party at Federal Seafoods Restaurant. Sponsored by Tita Evelyn del Rosario of the ComRel Division, it was basically a post-Christmas/pre-Valentine event to acknowledge the contribution of PLDT employees who volunteered time and sweat equity for various projects. I was included, even though I'm not a PLDT employee, by virtue of being a writer for the Kampana newsletter - the newsletter of the Mass Community.
I came in full gear - evening makeup, dressed in yellow (as per invitation instructions) and wearing an orange beret decorated with various pins acquired during trips to Europe (also as per invitation instructions to wear a headdress). Was acknowledged as a familiar face and then Tita asked me to be the Mass reader, right out of the blue. Whoa!
God was good to me, despite years of not serving as a lector, *and* not seeing the text until the actual moment of reading, I managed to render a good account of myself. No wobbles, no gaffes - with the big guns of PLDT right in front of me, yes, God was very good.
The rest of the event proceeded as with any corporate party - awards, speeches, special numbers, dinner. It was funny to see the mad stampede to the buffet-style (though servings were rationed out) table before the priest could even be asked to bless the food; but then again, it was past the regular dinner time for most everyone.
Got home at around 10.30PM. Hubby had occupied himself watching the new Will Smith movie, which he found boring. At least he got to see it for free - I can just imagine how pissed he would have been if he'd had to pay for the movie and then found it boring to boot.
We had spent the afternoon before the PLDT party at Greenbelt. Our first stop was Ace Hardware, where I bought a portable water heater. Then Ramon sat himself down on the bench at the concierge area while I picked up some stuff at Japan Home Store and a wireless router at CD-R King. We then checked out the new Fully Booked, which is somewhat lacking in the airconditioning department. However, this did not stop me from getting two more books in the Sano Ichiro series by Laura Joh Rowland, or two Neil Gaiman titles - yay for discount card!
What with changing out of clothes, organizing stuff, and settling the cats, it was midnight before I got to bed, refreshed by the hot water produced by the new heater. Amazing what a difference hot water makes when the weather has a chill to it!
Feb 11 - Today, the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, I solved the problem of providing hubby with a stable internet connection - though not quite in the way I expected. I bought the wireless router at CD-R King, right? Well, I had it configured on my Ubuntu laptop in about 15 seconds or so. Hubby's WinXP laptop couldn't find the wireless network...eh. Maybe the antenna was on the (now useless) lid of the laptop; but then I tried attaching the cable we were using before to the LAN port, and *that* worked like a charm. So now we can share the connection if we want, and I'm wireless now! *grin*
As the Twitter micro-blog states, I got a lot done: Dad's laundry, LONG NAP to make up for the party the night before, updated expense log, re-arranged the office corner, re-arranged the wine display, downloaded photos from the digicam and the phone cam. Decided to use the new planner that Tita Eve was using as door freebies to record my credit cards' status and charges. Quite the feeling of satisfaction there, if I do say so.
Finished two Betty Neels titles in as many days. However, the reading of "Blood and Gold" is in suspended animation. I really should finish it before I hand it off to the barangay in the next book culling.
Feb 12 - a very efficiently carried-out day, if I do say so. I dropped off a Valentine giftie for Ma's doctor at the Villamor Base Hospital, and was complimented on my make-up. Uh-huh.
Then Ramon and I headed out to Mall of Asia, where we had lunch, per usual, at Mann Hann. Though we were seated at the Mannang side, which allowed me to order lengua estofado, possibly my most favorite dish in the world. I downed one liter of honey kalamansi iced tea, which was great stuff.
Our final stop was the SM Hypermart, where I actually managed to keep the shopping light. *grin* Not really surprising, considering the bulk of the grocery shopping had already been done; the only reason I was there was to get some dried mango packs for visiting relatives. I did pick up two kinds of coffee beans, and a sack of Jasponica rice, which latter had been the only thing left undone on the previous grocery list.
Stopped by the bone-setter on the way home, because my chest was pinching something fierce. A few clicks, and I actually felt something un-knot itself inside me, and circulation move freely. I also had my hips sorted out - bone-setter's assistant had to pull on my legs twice to settle all the joints. Got home, took a Midol, then set myself to relaxing. Rinsed myself off with hot-spring temperature water, and slept like a baby.
Feb 13 - Rest Day. Did laundry, continued reading the latest Betty Neels title in hand, another MEGA NAP, and the usual round of e-mail, feeds and LJ-Inbox, punctuated with offline activities. Not much else, except to be surprised to see Anderson Cooper on my TV at 3PM, which meant it was 3AM in NYC, and his show should have gone off at around 12MN NYC time. Seems AC360 extended itself all the way to about 4AM to cover that tragic air crash in Buffalo. Poor Anderson, he was looking tired; and Jack Gray sounded a little tired on his Twitter feed. They did a good job of covering the story, by the look of it.
Thus endeth, more or less, the second week of February. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, and will be spent getting Ramon's prescriptions refilled and at the grocery to get the weekly stash of cat food pouches for our chibis.
*offers brandy to everyone who made it this far*
