Recap: February 01 - 07, 2009

Oh, this was a busy week.

Feb 01 - Santuario first. Mercury Drug to refill Ramon's prescriptions, and then the money machine to deposit (wow, incoming!) a check. Then SM Makati to pay a credit card bill - with much rejoicing, as this particular card had two loans on it, and today's payment was the last on one of those loans, incurred for Ramon's early hospital confinements.

Then I did some "me" shopping - those delicious palmieri biscuits from Cibo's, bath things and Dad's replacement toothbrush heads from Watson's. Some groceries from the supermarket, and we were home just after lunch, which was nice. Didn't nap, but puttered with things, and caught up with social networks.

Feb 02 - my lady bits did what they do every month, only not as stridently as last month. Still, the dull pain in my lower back and head had me reaching for the Midol and the Coke - though not at the same time. My body is a believer in a chilled can of Coke as a sovreign remedy for twitchy lady parts, and I'm not about to argue with it. Of course, this was the day I had to bring parentals to visit Dad's golfing buddy at Cardinal Santos Hospital, where Tito Solly has been confined for nearly a month.

As nearly as I can understand from Tita Mely, Tito Solly started having vertigo spells after his cataract operation. Apparently he went back to playing golf quite soon after said procedures. So they had a consult at Medical City Paranaque. Tito Sol was diagnosed with Parkinson's or some such thing and given medications.

The medications caused him to have hallucinations. @-@ Tita Mely had her eldest do some online research, which confirmed that said medications do have that side effect with some patients. The doctor said to reduce the dosages - Tita Mely decided to get a second opinion at Asian Hospital (the new one in Alabang) instead. Tito Sol goes in for an MRI and a spinal fluid withdrawal and goodness knows what else; nothing organic shows up that warrants his being medicated in the first instance. Second opinion doctor calls in one more consultant just to be sure - findings are the same, no organic cause requiring medication.

So Tito Sol has basically been confined for physical therapy, observation, and speech therapy. The (mild?) stroke that put him in hospital may or may not have been a result of wrong medications, but I'm not too clear on that. Of *course* I had to be in the washroom when all the important details were being discussed, oy.

Ma, though she didn't show it in the hospital room, was upset over how changed Tito and Tita look from when she last saw them. I had to do a double-take, because the change in Tito from an active golfer to someone who had to be assisted into a wheelchair...damn. We all hope he gets better soon.

We stopped at Rockwell on the way home and had lunch in Dulcinea. I wanted to bring Ma to Pepper Lunch, but she needed the washroom first, and was almost in tears on the way there because her hip was hurting through the walk. Dulcinea was the nearest resto to the washroom, so there we landed. Ma won't take paracetamol for the pain because she's afraid it might become habit-forming...ai-ya, I've tried to explain she only needs to take one before we go out to the mall or whatever, not while at home, but no. *sigh*

The credit card with hubby's latest hospital confinement arrived, and...ow. Ow ow ow ow. Thank God, Ma was willing to cover the bill - "That's what money is for, darling..." - which was a great relief, as I can now stretch my finances a wee bit more.

Some random thoughts were percolating through my brain while I was resting up; among them, wondering what it would be like to replace our bed with a pair of recliners. Ramon sleeps better these days when he's in the rocking chair, and I've never had any problem going to sleep in a recliner. The aesthetics of such a move are much in doubt, though, but I'm not likely to be carrying out such an idea any time soon.

Feb 03 - Dad and Ramon went in for their monthly appointment with Dr. Gatmaitan. This time, we had breakfast at Floating Island, which filled me up nicely. (Next time I have to try the American Breakfast, it looks good!) Ramon lost one pound, and Dad gained two. *chuckle*

Dr. Gatmaitan found nothing out of the ordinary with the menfolk, and that was a good thing. Ramon's meds have been tweaked - the Diamicron is now 1/2 tablet, Glucophage 500mg has been added, and no more Loricid for the uric acid, yay!

Went straight home, where life went on pretty much as usual. Poked into my bathroom cabinet and found stuff to drop into the wastebasket, to clean and give away. Caught "Clean House" again and was very happy to do so. Which led me to making a note to myself to program CNN's "Back Story" into the DVR since I can't seem to wake up at 5AM any more.

Feb 04 - REST DAY. Nothing to report but downloading torrents, phone paying bills, and gratefully accepting check from Ma for huge-ass credit card bill.

Feb 05 - I CAN HAZ MOAR REST NAO YAYZ. So what did I do? I learned how to add new themes to my SE-T700. *facepalm* The first thing I ever learn to do whenever I get my hands on a new phone, after getting familiar with it, is putting new themes and customizations on it.

Also, discovered the Google Maps function on my phone. Whee! And it works for Manila! Double Whee!

Maid scheduled to go out on Saturday, so printed a gate pass so the guards would let her back into the village.

Feb 06 - Today was the happy day I met [livejournal.com profile] mlina and her mama [livejournal.com profile] homesong and much fun was had. Didn't have any trouble at all getting to their place, given that it was a straight run up to Timog. However, I did overshoot a turn I ought to have made, and had to squish the Avanza into a U-turn slot and try once more. Second time lucky, even got a parking slot right in front of their gate.

The reason for going up there was because [livejournal.com profile] mlina's family was moving to new digs in Ortigas, and her mama had offered me two cartons of old romance novels. Now me+opportunity to acquire new books=bliss and glee; therefore off I went - sans Ramon, who had developed a cramp in his side just as I was dressing up and therefore was ordered to stay home. I was welcomed with warmth that made light of the rain that heralded my arrival, and we spent the better part of an hour in pleasant chat consisting of my updating [livejournal.com profile] homesong on the Stephen King/Stephanie Meyers kerfluffle, and the knitted Bella womb of WTF, and other topics besides Twilight.

The books were loaded safely into the car, and then I headed down to White Plains, to pick up some garden supplies. Scored with the Cymbush and the Hormex for the plants, but no urea fertilizer. Crossed the street to the Lapid's and bought two large packs of chicharon laman (pork rind with some of the fat attached to the skin as opposed to chicharon which is just the plain skin) for the housemates.

Then I made the idiotic decision to go home via Ortigas. *headdesk* Basically, it was smooth running from White Plains until I turned into Meralco Avenue, where I was stuck in traffic for the better part of an hour? A very long time, anyway. Lots of texting from home. *LOTS*. Everyone wanting to know where I was, whether I was coming home, did I eat lunch? Tried out more functions of the mobile phone while feeling my butt grow numb, and learned how to send a voice message. (Which Ramon couldn't hear because he couldn't get the volume to get any higher, woe.)

But (im)patience was eventually rewarded, and I got out of that stoppage and back onto EDSA, from whence it was a straight run to Santuario, and the comfort of La Nuovo with its quiet atmosphere and good food. Ordered the mushroom soup and spaghetti carbonara, which filled me up nicely. Popped into Rustan's and bought two liters of the Del Monte freshly squeezed orange juice, an investment in Vitamin C and my health, and a newspaper for Ramon.

At home, I was welcomed by one and all (well, the cats, Ramon, and Ma, anyway). Got the books unloaded, and was so excited that I started sorting through them right away. Found titles by my favorite author (Betty Neels) that I didn't have yet, and set those aside right away. Set aside titles by other authors that looked interesting. Once I had all the titles repacked, I washed myself off and got into a fresh change of clothes in time for dinner. Drank an ibuprofen, then...my mind draws a blank. *grin* But it was a fantastic day!

Feb 07 - Rest Day while the maid had her day off. This meant that lunch and dinner were ordered in; Yoshinoya for lunch, and Jollibee for dinner. Caught up with all my online stuff, updated expense logs, and then also updated the DVR schedule. I really have to spend an entire day doing nothing but editing and burning off files from that thing so Ramon can finally watch his movies. Waugh!

A peaceful, uneventful day. In which I managed to feel good about the stuff I did get done, anyway.

*offers milk, cookies, and medication for everyone who has read thus far*

Thus endeth the first week of February. *grin*
