I can haz blog post nao!
I've been through e-mail, feeds, and LJ-land at least twice today. I haven't written anything about anything for goodness knows how long...::runs off to check::...since the 20th. Memes don't count, and Twitter micro-blogs are little more than bullet points. So it's time to review what's been up, down, trying to get the feeling again, y/y?
First off, I think someone's drunk in the house behind us. I can hear someone going on and he doesn't sound sober. The maids are laughing at him.
Basically, according to my microblog entries, I have been spending my time decluttering. Turning into a dust magnet as well, but nothing that a good long hot shower couldn't fix. Kept the maids on their toes, moving things about, vacuuming, and then putting them back together after I'd separated the clutter from the stuff I wanted to keep. In all, I managed to collect four cartons of stuff, plus Dad's karaoke machine that has volume control issues, plus 2/3rds of a speaker set, and bunged them off to the Salesian Missions yesterday morning.
I'll never cease to be amazed at how relieved the rooms feel when I'm done sorting and dusting and such. So much lighter! Not to mention the space that is reclaimed, enabling stuff to get up off the floor and boogie oogie oogie into the upper storage cabinets. All of this shifting of boxes and organizers resulting in the discovery of two unused china sets in Ramon's stash. Both are services for four – plates, cups, and saucers – of which one is seeing daily use at last. ::bounce:: Reserving the other one for a time when I'm in the mood for the sight of a new china pattern on the table. ::grin::

Techno-wise, Ramon's laptop screen gave up the ghost, so we went and got a shiny 17” external monitor for it. On the repairman's advice – he said, why spend $$$ on a 14” screen that may or may not be in stock for months, when we could spend $$ on a bigger external monitor? That piece of advice alone would have earned him the box of ensaimada I was planning on giving him; but when he walked me over the phone through the process of getting the monitor to work (massive plug-n-play FAIL there)? Well, he's getting a dozen ensaimadas now. Some to share with the office, and some left over for him to take home. ::nods::
I went from Ubuntu to Kubuntu and back again. Kubuntu is all kinds of shiny, but it turned out to be a bit too temperamental for me. The nice thing about Linux, it doesn't take nine hundred years to change distros. I was back in operation in less than an hour, though I decided not to do any serious work till every update had kicked in. And the nice thing about starting from scratch is being able to rebuild a better configuration, based on one's previous experience.
So what did I do while waiting? ::roll drums:: I, my friends, long after the fact, have FINALLY finished the entire Harry Potter series! Read Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows over the course of four days, and let me tell you, I was not all that fond of Harry or Dumbledore by the book's end. Mourned for Hedwig, poor sweet! Sighed over Snape, poor man, used and slighted and never appreciated till it was too late.
Now, I have picked up Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith, a hardcover copy bought an airport bookstore (Hong Kong? Maybe Taiwan, now that I think about it?) on our way home. Skimmed it, but never got down to reading it properly, which situation shall soon be remedied, starting tomorrow. ::nods::
I also learned how to install Adobe AIR on Ubuntu. Equally important, I also learned to uninstall unwanted AIR apps from Ubuntu – it's so much more fun to experiment with apps when you know that you can get rid of every last trace when you don't want them any more.

Brought Ma to the Villamor Base Hospital so that she could consult with the wife of one of Dad's golf cronies. Like her husband, Dra. Yumul is a member of the medical profession, and she recommended Ma for a bone scan/test at Roche. Ma's hip is displaying arthritis pain, and she adamantly refuses to take anything for it. Thing is, she wants to go malling with me, but can't even manage the shortest distance before the pain takes over. I suggested that she ought to take Alaxan, at least, before a trip to the mall, to lessen the aggravation, but she'd rather stay home and bear it. Oh, heavens.
Anyway, if I don't hear from that manager from Roche who is supposed to set up the test, I'm supposed to nag him for a testing date. Gently, of course. ::grin::

Went to Cash-n-Carry to do the groceries, after dropping off all the donation stuff at the Salesians. The supermarket has been improved beyond all recognition – it is pretty. Wide aisles, LIGHTS, and the widest variety of merchandise of the supermarkets that I frequent the most. Loved it.
By contrast, S&R is a boring place to shop. It's great for bulk items, but otherwise, meh. I was frighteningly jubilant at the discovery of Friskies tinned food in variety boxes – management appears to have woken up to the reality that there is more to cat food than generic kibble and Friskies tinned Ocean Fish! So on that basis alone, I have been persuaded to renew my membership for another year.

Saw the Mumbai events on TV, and followed it closely for about a day and a half from the time I became aware of it. ::shakes head:: Gave myself breaks from the news by going on a CSI:Miami marathon – two episodes in a row. CSI:NY will be a longer marathon when I start on that – three episodes in a row!
Heard about the Black Friday incidents at Wal-Mart and Toys-R-Us. Though from what I understand, the Toys-R-Us incident had more to do with rival gangs than any obsession with being the first at the deepest discounts. Maybe stores should distribute their big-sale days a little more evenly throughout the year, instead of waiting for one day to make up for all the non-spending people do in the months before.

Joined two more social networks, because I could: PeopleBrowsr and FriendFeed. Wonder how things will work out in that direction.
Anyway, my eyelids are dropping of their own volition. Time to get to bed and concentrate on more offline stuff tomorrow.
:)

Just what I need for the holidays, light and fanciful reading.
:)
p/s - I seem to have read a review of the book, out on the internets, that actually says that the writing is like fanfic. ::LOL::

Yup, I totally agree with you on that.
