From mall to shining mall

In a serious fit of geek-lust, I decided to upgrade my Ubuntu at midnight. O_o

So now that I've committed myself to staying up for at least an hour or two (unless I decide to leave the laptop alone, which is more than likely), now is as good a time as any to write up a blog entry about the past two days.

Yesterday, Ramon and I did the groceries at Cash-n-Carry. We left early, in order to give ourselves some leeway for non-grocery things; we started by having lunch at Luk Yuen. Roast duck rice toppings and pork siomai, YUM. It's been a while since I had the pleasure of roast duck, and Luk Yuen does it fairly well. Not as excellently as you may find in hotels, but definitely there was much enjoyment in the eating thereof.

Should I ever end up in Hong Kong, though, there is a little restaurant in the mall attached to The Renaissance where I fell in love with roast goose - I have resolved to eat there if that's the last thing we do during our stay in the former Crown Colony.

After lunch, washrooms. Discovered that my lady parts were starting to declare that They Were Woman, which made a dash to Mercury Drug for necessities an imperative course of action. That having been arranged, I made a stop at Japan Home (yes, I know, it is the pilgrimage site for housekeeping on the cheap) to pick up a new pair of scissors and a couple of mattress covers.

Ramon had taken himself off to Book Sale, so I stopped at CD-R King to buy CD sleeves. Am considering investing in rechargeable batteries, at least for the most frequently used items, like Ramon's wireless headphones. Considering that the dear man tends to nod off while watching TV, you can see that rechargeables could save us quite a bit of money in that direction.

Next stop, a cellphone store where I got Dad a new housing for his phone. I actually only needed a new keypad, but keypad comes together with the housing, so why the heck not. My ChiPhone now sports a new screen protector, and not a moment too soon, what with the original film cover starting to peel.

The cellphone store was in a corner of the new tiangge/flea market section on the second floor. Goodness, but the place is going to be a veritable temptation alley once it's all set up! Definitely looking forward to many happy times browsing through the area.

Having accomplished the non-grocery part, it was time to get down with the supermarket, and so we did. ::grin:: The new layout is becoming more and more familiar with time, which means more efficiency in picking up items. We actually managed to snag all the items on our list, plus a few extras - and still managed to get home while the sun was still up.

* * * * * * *

The day of rest I was looking forward to having today was postponed, since Dad wanted to visit his dermatologist about a wart. Here is the dialogue between me and my hubby when I told him I was driving the parentals to Market!Market! :

Ramon: Dad has a wart? How did that happen?
Me: Ummm...maybe he used to be a frog, then when he married Ma, he became a prince - and every now and then his old froggy nature shows itself?
Ramon: Ko-KAK! (which is the phonetic rendition of a bullfrog's croaking over here...young frogs go "blidit" and slightly older ones go "ribit")

Yes, we iz disrespectful chilluns, we iz. ::snerk::

Anyway, hubby held the fort (as usual) while I spent a day at the mall with the parents. Thankfully the exercise kept my lady bits from being too uppity. So Dad stopped at the derma to get the wart remover applied, then we had lunch at Pancake House (as opposed to Mann Hann which only had hallway seating). Pan chicken for me, with a french toast dessert, YUM. Parents split a club sandwich while Ma and I split a taco salad. More YUM.

After that, Dad went back to the derma while Ma and I toddled through the ladies section of the department store. Ma was thoroughly enjoying herself after being cooped up in the house for so long, and it was fun to watch. As per usual, I held her bag and stuff and carried the items she had chosen and keyed in all the numbers for the electronic payment. Then we sat down on one of the customer sofas and talked about Dad being willing to pay for a hearing aid for Ma - who insists that it's not her ears, but Dad's way of talking that makes her unable to comprehend what he says to her. She may have a point, there are times when no one in the house can understand what Dad is saying. ::shrug::

Then I discovered that I was finally able to configure my ChiPhone to access the internet. Woot! Sent a happy status update to ping.fm before leaving Ma on the sofa, while I rambled through the housewares department for the dishcloth packs that she's planning on adding to the giveaway stash. Found the dishcloths, got six sets per her instructions, then proceeded to get all googly-eyed over the linens and other housewares. God knew what he was doing, not to give me a new, needing to be furnished living space - the money I would have spent fixing it up!

Returned to Ma in time to discover that Dad had tried to contact me. Tried to call him back, but he was, as usual, unreachable. ::sigh:: So popped Ma into the customer lounge on the ground floor, went up to get Dad, responded to his mobile, got him, brought him down to the customer lounge - where one receipt gave all three of us free entry, yayz!

Toddled Ma through the Pearl Market, where she didn't know where to put her eyes. That was fun! I saw lots of interesting stuff, though I must admit I'm more of an earring ho than anything else. We stopped at a bag stall where Ma wasn't quite sure about a certain pretty bag - so we ended up having afternoon tea in Starbucks while she made up her mind. ::grin:: It's always easier to make decisions on a full stomach, y/y?

So in the end, I was sent back to the stall to get the bag - and on the way back, I passed by Carolina's and added six balls of Cannon multicolor threads to my stash. ::scuffs ground:: Added incentive to get that scarf moving again! I have some quality time scheduled for it later, once the sun comes up.

Then we went home. Where life went on as usual until I decided to upgrade my Ubuntu. ::chuckle:: I'll just post this, then leave the laptop running by itself till the install finishes. No need to wait up through the entire upgrade process, anway.

Will let you all know how the install went when I get back from sleeping. Ciao!
