there's a (small) shadow hanging over me

Obviously, I've been keeping myself occupied since my last post. Recap of recent events follows.

The house went into mourning yesterday over the passing of Pica-cat's remaining kitten. It had gone into a decline and thanks to my cold and general malaise, it was only yesterday that I felt well enough to drive to the vet. We had to leave the small one behind; brought Pica home, and did the groceries.

When the text message reached me, I had to flee to the car in order to give myself a chance to bawl my eyes out. I felt so bad at having delayed so long to bring kitten to the vet; and she was such a pretty thing! Ramon felt as bad as I did, but somehow managed to make me feel less guilty for not getting off my butt sooner.

Pica was somewhat bewildered when we arrived home, and spent the night looking for kitten. ::is heartbroken:: Thankfully, she is getting over the loss, what with me picking her up every ten minutes – which she likes very much. ::is somewhat consoled:: In time, we hope the arrival of new kittens (hopefully just two again, like before) will make for a brighter atmosphere in the house.

I managed to cry myself to sleep last night. ::sigh:: But morning brought a better outlook on things, and all will be well.

Today was somewhat busy. The cemetery caretaker called last night, requesting an advance on his salary. That meant Ramon and I had to go over to Manila North to give him the money, and check up on whatever else might need to be done.

Managed to get out of bed early, at which cats demanded breakfast. ::grin:: There was enough time to set up this week's recording schedule on the DVR, and pay three bills over the phone. We left the house at 8.00AM, and got to the cemetery around 9.00AM. Mang Jose got his money and also reported that we need to buy a couple of pots – the sturdy kind made out of used truck tires. I asked him to go check them out at his source in Blumentritt, and he'll give us a call with the cost estimate.

Left the cemetery at 9.30AM, and wound up in Cash-n-Carry just in time for the mall opening. Brunch at Jollibee, then a stop at BookSale ended up with me getting a seven-book series called “The Madonna Key”, published by Harlequin. Ramon was startled, but agreed that better to spend on a complete series while it was still a complete series, rather than buy one volume at a time and end up with holes in the plot. ::snuggles hubby::

Then the next stop was the Japan Home Store, where I bought a couple of organizers, reflexology slippers for me and mom, and cotton undies. Not a bad haul!

Ramon then left me at The Big Apple Express Spa, encouraging me to have a 90-minute massage. Geez, but I love the man to bits. Naturally, I sent him off with all sorts of reminders, mother hen that I am. ::grin:: Went for something called a “Balinese Massage” - and Leah, the therapist, worked all sorts of magic on my back and other knotted muscles. Came out feeling almost like a new woman. ::grin::

Supermarket next! Not much to buy, having already done the groceries. A spray can for Mang Miguel to use the next time he's over. More tins of cat food. Kitten kibble, because Sakki likes the softer texture from ordinary kibble. Tuna for Darklette and Pica. Ice cream and sorbet for everyone, goat milk for Ma. Oh, and fresh cooked Lapid's chicharon (aka pork rinds).

Mercury Drug at Santuario followed after we got out of Cash-n-Carry. Refilled Ramon's prescriptions, then our last stop was Le Coeur de France for croissants and milk bread. Ran into Dad on his way to Mercury Drug, then home, to unpack the groceries and put away the laundry.

Life as usual after that – bonded with the cats, OD'd on CSI in its various permutations to date; checked e-mail and feeds. Not much left to do now except enjoy CSI Super Sunday and try to bang out a drabble or two. Catch you all then, when I catch you!

::hugs you back::

Pica spent the whole night last night in relative peace and quiet, which was a good thing. I only heard her voice this morning when she came to greet me as I opened the kitchen door. She's acting like a kitten again, and not actively looking for kitten, which is another good thing.

Donya Buding, our alpha female, is making sure Pica knows where her boundaries are. As our queen mother thinks everything is belong to her, some intervention is required - but it is understood that the kitchen is neutral territory.

I find myself curious over the thought of "reflexology slippers" OO how do those work?

[identity profile] cindyg.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Reflexology slippers are those slippers you see with raised bumps on the inner sole. When you first put them on, it's like walking on rounded pointy things that push up against your reflexology points. There is a lot of OW OW OW in the first fifteen minutes - which is usually recommended for a first session.

Then your feet get used to it, and it doesn't feel so bad. :D According to Ma, they work mighty fine for her - and she has the pampered skin, mind you. I wear mine for about 30 minutes or so a day, and they do me fine as well.

I must get this. I think.

:) It'll be a nice gift for mom.
