Amazing Race Asia 3 - Premiere
Well, what do you know, I managed to catch the start of the new season! Haven't done a live blog in ages, so here goes:
* Starting City is Bangkok. First challenge: eat a heaping bowl of assorted bugs and things before they can get their clue.
* Oh, good, the Philippine team (one New Zealander and a balikbayan Canadian girl?) got to the table. Now all they have to do is eat!
* Free plug for Caltex! Next challenge: clean a passenger bus.
* COMMERCIAL BREAK
* Have discovered that if you turn up the volume just right on earphones, you don't need to have them in your ears to listen to the show. ::grin:: Keeps you from getting ear burn.
* Oh dear. Some folk are barfing the insects back up...good thing there are barf buckets handy.
* Amazing the things people find to complain about, like having to key open the taxi boot.
* Poor folk are sure they have feelers and legs and things stuck in their teeth and throats.
* Ahaha, their reactions finding out what they have to wash...!
* "My maid would be proud..." Or not.
* "OMG, my husband's going to get mad at me."
* OK, first lost car of the show.
* Mercy on us, but the sun's gone down on their washing!
* "Can you hold my hand, I'm scared of heights." - Kiwi BF of Pinoy girl. AHAHA...poor sweet lad, she's going to walk all over you if you get married. ::nods::
* "Super Smurf in power and action!"
* "Even heiresses can wash buses!"
* Wait...did that one couple just taxi *away* from the sign-up board?
* COMMERCIAL BREAK
* Yay, Pinoy team in fourth place, Bus 2, first seats.
* Next challenge: search temple grounds among the Buddha statues for the next clue. Teams have to find clue within 20 minutes to leave on the same bus they arrived in.
* Gah, it's DARK. If your flashlight batteries die, you're doomed.
* Catch bus, head for Chiang Mai bus terminal. Yay, Pinoys are now in 2nd place!
* Oho, it's only the one couple on that big bus (2nd to depart)? Lucky! Everyone can take a nap!
* COMMERCIAL BREAK
* Everyone's accounted for now, and the 3rd bus is leaving at last.
* Clue Box! Detour! Race - driver off-road buggy 8kms; Rice - pound rice into paste to make buchi (rice balls).
* Thai jeepneys look almost like ours, but ours are more home-made in style...
* Awww. Someone just busted his mallet in the rice-pounding challenge.
* The Indian father and son chose to race. Let's see how this looks.
* First placers already have directions to Pit Stop.
* Whao, Thai driver is just as bad as Pinoy driver in this leg of the race!
* First three teams almost on top of each other. First two teams play jack-n-poy to decide who gets to step on the mat first!
* Pinoy team in 2nd place. This is a good start.
* Oh dear, Thai team in huge blow-up fight, right when they won? Talk about letting off race tensions.
* Second lost team of the show!
* COMMERCIAL BREAK
* Folk are giving up on the rice challenge and going for the race challenge.
* The ones that did the race challenge are coming out of the course now.
* Oh, no - the one team lands on the mat, but since they didn't pay the taxi driver, they have to go back (a long way back) and pay him first before being allowed to check in!
* Six teams and counting...
* Battle for last place focuses on communication snafus between teams and drivers.
* Indian father and son reach the mat first. However, instructions say teams "MAY" be eliminated.
* Neena and Amit are the first team to be eliminated!

* Allan Wu is growing on me, the more I watch this show.
