Hot Summer Night - in September, yet!

I've got CNN in the background, and I'm glad to hear that Gustav has been downgraded from Category 4 to Category 2. Admittedly, the latter designation still packs a wallop, but for those left/staying behind in NOLA, I would think their ability to ride out those winds and rain have improved in some measure.

In the end, it will come down to the people - the emergency teams, the hospital staffs, the police, the National Guard, the military, the citizenry at large. People are the life's blood of a city, and if they've got the will, I'm pretty sure ways will open for them to get New Orleans back on its feet again. In the meantime, here's hoping everyone stays safe and sound till the worst is over.

This afternoon, the parents and I went to Glorietta. The main objectives were to get Ma to the hair salon, and Dad's pension papers photocopied. We had to drop by the Barangay Office first and borrow their stamp pad so that Ma could plant her fingerprints on one of the papers; from there, the afternoon's itinerary went exactly as planned.

Discovered on the way to the hair salon that Savory Chicken, one of my husband's favorite eateries, has opened a stall in the Food Court (currently undergoing some sort of renovation. Texted the joyful news to hubby, who immediately fell in with my idea for us to have a date there at the soonest possible time.

So while Ma was enjoying herself at the salon, I got the papers photocopied at National Bookstore, and also picked up a newspaper for hubby. Returned to the salon to find the parents nibbling away at Taters; they accompanied me while I "beta tested" the new Savory stall. OM NOM NOM YUM. Bought a 3-pc leg quarter box to bring home to the hubby; also dropped by Lord Stow's for a box of proper egg tarts. ::nods::

Ma also needed to provide 2"x2" pictures for one of Dad's papers, so we dropped by the Kodak shop for those. Then Dad declared he wanted to snack in Mann Hann (yet again), so after seating the parents, I dropped into Dreams to pick up a ball of crochet thread. I also picked up a skein of yarn in a lovely Griffyndor colorway, that should knit up to something interesting. It was probably the lowest-priced lot I've bought from that store to date. ::chuckle::

Home again, and back into the routine of the familiar. Worked up another pattern repeat on my current knitting WIP, and I must say I like the way it's coming along. Next time, I'll knitting with just two threads instead of three, and see how that turns out. Crochet thread appears to be great for trying out lace knitting, and so far, so good.

So much for the day's events. Now that Gustav has made landfall, CNNi is broadcasting World Sports. News comes back on at midnight, which would be lunchtime in New Orleans, I think. I hope those levees hold. The video CNN is showing makes one want to bite one's nails - the whitecaps generated by the wind are sloshing over the top something fierce.
