Note: I heard this lovely song in the early 1970s, shortly before Marcos declared martial law. Given what I knew of American History at that time, I found myself touched and haunted by the lyrics. Even today, I get all misty-eyed when I hear it - and also, wanting to thwack people about the head with The Feather Duster of Doom (TM). I'm posting it here to join those marking MLK Day.
ABRAHAM, MARTIN, AND JOHN
Sung by Dion
Anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
You know I just looked around and he's gone
Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone
[Brief instrumental interlude-organ]
Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone
Didn't you love the things that they stood for?
Didn't they try to find some good for you and me?
And we'll be free
Some day soon, it's gonna be one day
Anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walkin' up over the hill
With Abraham, Martin, and John

A big thwack indeed, and with more than a feather duster! I find it unnerving to know he's the sole candidate for the Republicans, while the two potential history-makers are both Democrat - and sniping away!
Oh, America. When your systems work, there's nothing better. When they don't...oye.
