Here comes Santa Claus...

::grin::

Today was gift distribution day for our maintenance crew, with Mama, as usual, presiding over what has become a Christmas ritual. Throughout the year we take advantage of sales to get our guys t-shirts, boxing shorts, face towels - think about those 3-for-Php100 bundles, and you get the picture. Then Ma adds a little extra money to sweeten what I have come to call the "care packets". Each worker gets a t-shirt, a pair of boxers, and a couple of face towels; and it's fun to see their faces light up. There is good-natured ribbing, and the whole thing never fails to put a glow over our Christmas.

The office guys get a separate set of gifts from the field crew, and this year we were given a cake from Red Ribbon. Black Forest, no less. There was much of the "awwww..." from our side, and much expression of gratitude from the other, so it will be, somehow, a merry Christmas for the gang.

I had a meeting this morning with the girl whose dissertation I'm editing. She's on chapter four of a five-part paper, and the poor dear was complaining about all the things she was involved in. I suggested that perhaps her New Year's resolution should be to prioritize life. I mean, she has the dissertation. Then she teaches, which is where she gets her living expenses. On top of that, she's an active volunteer in the Chapel where I used to serve. Et cetera. I pointed out to her that as she was so very close to completing her dissertation, she might be better served to concentrate on that and on teaching for 2008. The Chapel work could afford to wait.

She goes, she feels sorry for the chaplain. I told her I'd feel sorry too, in her shoes. But...if she's too tired to invest the amount of effort she feels the projects deserve, then she's doing everyone a disservice. The work will fall short, and she'll be exhausted at the end of it all. Told her to give it a little thought.

Today is the birthday of CNN's Adrian Finnigan, and Kevin Corriveau of CNN Weather in Atlanta pulled a fast one on him by announcing to all and sundry that Adrian actually had a very wide fanbase. ::grin:: The expression on Adrian's face was *priceless*. Then Kevin went on to say that they actually had Adrian's biggest fan on the phone, with a special message for him...and proceeded to introduce Jenny Harrison, who usually does weather with Adrian in the afternoon edition of CNN World News. She was calling from Gatwick, having just arrived in London from Atlanta, and recited him a cute little poem to celebrate Adrian's birthday. It was so cute! Adrian was totally floored, and blushing all over the map, and swearing to get Kevin big time one of these days. Uh-huh.

Really, Adrian and Jenny qualify as my CNN anchor/weather OTP. Their banter is such fun to watch.

::sigh:: I have a boil that is taking its sweet time to ripen. It's due for a session with the hot water bottle in a few minutes, though, and that ought to help matters immensely.

Let's see. What else happened that I can mention? Ran Software Update and now I have shiny new versions of Java and Quick Time running on the iBook. Also, there was a Security Update. Installed a thing called TaskCoach to keep track of my to-dos, and a thing called iMedia Browser to make looking for digital media easier.

Not much else to chat about...hm. I don't think I've told you about the new DVDs Ramon and I got while perambulating about in Glorietta during our anniversary. But I think I'll save that for another post. Suffice to say that the BBC version of Much Ado About Nothing has as much fire and sparkle as the Kenneth Branagh version, and reminded me why it will ever be my favorite of Shakespeare's plays.

Quotable Quotes:

Is he not in the height approved a villain?
What! Bear her in hand until they come to take hands,
and then, with public slander, unmitigated rancor...
O God, that I were a man!
I would eat his heart in the marketplace.

What, my Lady Disdain!
Are you still living?

Now, if I could only find the other comedies in the series while the prices are marked down at Astrovision!
