The Remains of the Day

Today was pretty much spent in being brain-dead after all the mental/emo upheavals of the week. Played around with the software in the hard drive; threw out Opera again, to go back to Firefox. I have Speed Dial on the Firefox, so I won't be missing Opera all that much anymore. ::bounce::

Put iSquint back in the dock, to convert FLV files into iPod MP4 format (the better to share them around, if necessary). Moved other files to the external drive.

Managed to submit my assignment for the Kampana newsletter just in the nick of time! Today was the deadline, and thank heavens I checked the calendar function of my phone - something I haven't done of late. Now I have to churn out another small piece for another newsletter, but I'm drawing a blank as to topic.

Watching CNN at the moment, and poor Andrew Stevens is having kittens because the audio feed from London to CNN Hong Kong just won't work. He's supposed to be interviewing the brother of former Pakistan PM Sharif who arrived, and within a few hours, promptly deported on the basis of corruption charges. But the sound won't cooperate, and after two attempts, Andrew went into his "moving right along..."spiel.

Have arranged with the maid to have a fresh batch of rice porridge cooked up and placed in the soup thermos before the house closes for the night, so that when Ramon wakes up at 2.00AM looking for food, there will be something warm to put in his tummy. The excess aspirin has probably been purged from his system, so we have to remember to ask Dr. Gatmaitan if he can just take it every other day instead of every day, to avoid another gastritis episode.

I had the great pleasure late last night to successfully file transfer the Andrea Bocelli cover of "Solamente Una Vez" to my goddaughter, all via Adium. Apparently her aunt needs it for a project; and a merry chase it was, looking for the song when given the vaguest of lyrics! However, Google and a little second-guessing saved the day, SendSpace did not. No love there, which means I missed a step somewhere in the directions.

Hm! CNN is doing a piece on all the people training to be nurses here in the Philippines. I wonder who the correspondent is. ::waits through recap of headlines:: It's Hugh Rimington - hey, he's been here quite a bit! Oh, mercy on us, Hugh, please buy yourself a polo barong for reporting from out of Manila! You'd be so much more comfortable than if you were wearing a jacket and shirt! Not to mention you'd look real sharp on TV into the bargain. ::grin::

Time Magazine called to tell me my subscription was going to run out this week. Considering that I normally get contacted by the rep connected with the Salesian Missions, this was a welcome notice. Have made out the check and arranged to have it picked up by tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm supposed to get a choice of gift for renewing, the list will come with the guy picking up the check.

Called the travel agency, and Ma's passport is ready for picking up. This also means that groceries are to be picked up as well, from the Mall of Asia. Ma is now all excited to book some time in Hong Kong, and my head spins at the idea of leaving Ramon for any length of time...well, I can manage a short visit, but nothing longer than a week. Would have to stock up hugely on his medicines! Speaking of which, must refill one of his prescriptions tomorrow as well.

'Tis good to feel normal again.
