Recap - July 27, 2007
Today we spent at least two hours in the Acer Service Center, getting Win XP installed by the tech desk. Of that time, perhaps 30 minutes was spent waiting for the laptop to come up in the queue, and the 1.5 hours was spent reformatting the hard drive, installing Win XP itself, and the additional drivers needed by the Acer. But it was definitely worth it, to walk out of there with a functional computer - and no charges for labor, even!
Was majorly freaked when a motorcycle skidded and slid across our lane - fortunately it was some meters ahead, so it's not like I was in any danger of hitting the rider. But still...it was heart-stopping to be getting to put the Revo in gear and then seeing the accident plus the rider's crash helmet go flying across to the opposite lanes. ::shiver:: Drove really slowly past the crowd that appeared like mushrooms to help the poor person - one went up to flag traffic to go real slow past the accident, one dashed into the opposite lane to retrieve the helmet, at least four others were supporting the rider in an effort to get him into a vehicle to take him to the nearest hospital (I hope). It was rather cheering to see so many people willing to jump in and help, and both Ramon and I were sure the person would come out all right, if rather dinged about.
We continued down the road without incident, and returned to Quirino Highway just in time to beat the lunch time rush hour. I wanted to bring Ramon to Gram's at Rockwell for lunch, but the parking lot being full, I had to nix that idea. Then I was inspired to drop off the old clothes in the car at Deanna's house, just in time for the Dasma-gilid charity sale. The original plan was to have lunch first, then drop off the clothes; things obviously worked out a little differently there, but as the end result was what was intended, no harm done.
Lunch was had at Gerry's Grill instead. We had kare-kare that was a proper thing - thick peanut sauce, large chunks of beef, vegetables. Mmmm-good! We also had sinigang na salmon, which was delicious. Though I think next time we'll order only one or the other, as I never expected the servings to be as big as they were. @__@ We waddled out of the place, believe you me!
Final stop was supposed to be at SM Supermarket, where we happily crossed items off the shopping list, and were at the check-out lane when Dad called to say we'd be replacing the maid. ::boggles:: Oh-kay. So we high-tailed it off to the house as soon as we could, with me expecting to drive to the agency and back. Oy vey. Fortunately, sanity prevailed, and the agency was to deliver the new maid after all.
It was with a clean conscience, therefore, that I could leave the groceries, Ramon, and the Acer at home, and attend the Kampana meeting after all. ::bounce:: It always does me good to meet with Tita Evelyn, Chona, Fr. Boogie, and the rest of the volunteer staff - laughter, free dinner, and plans to make each issue of the newsletter better than the one before. This time around, I'm stuck with the "Inspiring Words" column. Five sentences' worth of inspiration...must look for inspiration of my own before setting down to do this!
Got home at 10pm. Hubby was waiting up for me, along with the new maid, whose name is Rachel Anne. Let's see how this new househelp works out. She seems a bit young for us, I'm thinking. We'll see.
