Funny, we were just talking about that...

So after taking a long hard look at the budget, Ramon and I decided that month-end of July would be the best time to replace his laptop with something more in tune with the times. Something with built a built-in LAN, maybe even WiFi if we can find something in our price range. If we buy without the OS built-in, we get mileage out of my old (licensed) XP disc - which I hope will bloody well run despite the fact that I activated it for my old desktop. I need to find out about this from the Microsoft site...Ramon's Scrabble lexicon program won't run on a Mac, nor will his oodles of project files constructed with Microsoft PictureIt! ::sigh::

Now what does Ramon's laptop do this afternoon? The monitor commits seppuku, with one of his pet projects still in progress on the hard drive. Gwah. Must now try to borrow a spare monitor in order to transfer all the files onto CD or a USB stick. Or bring it to a shop just to recover the data and then make sure the hard drive is erased properly.

Just proves the rule that says, don't even think about replacing old equipment without making regular backups of everything every ten minutes. You never know what will happen...

Took the parents to the eye clinic today, and have confirmed that Ma's eyes will need to have cataracts removed. Dr. Batungbacal will start with the right eye, and once that is healed, the left eye will be treated. Tomorrow, the parents will pay a visit to the Makati Med laser clinic to have their eyes tested/calibrated or whatever the term is for getting the necessary readings for the replacement lenses to go in their eyes. The laser clinic, conveniently enough, is on the same floor as Ramon's cardiologists' clinic, and the hospital restaurant.

The plan is to leave the house between 9.00AM and 9.30AM, to take advantage of light traffic and maybe snag a parking slot near the back entrance. Then upstairs to fall in line at the laser clinic, and maybe say hello to Dr. Gatmaitan and Dr. de la Rosa if there's time. Definitely lunch at Floating Island (hospital restaurant), and then to Dr. Batungbacal to submit the results and find out what the next steps will be.

Prayers and well-wishing for the senior citizens will be very much appreciated. The doctors have assured us repeatedly that cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure, and we'll be in and out of the clinic in no time flat. This is going to be a good thing. It will also mean that I will be dancing attendance on them hand and foot for a wee bit, but that's all right. That's what daughters are for. ::grin::

Also...will attempt to log in some time at the gym tomorrow. Am wondering, in the light of the financial austerity measures, whether I should renew for another year at Gold's Gym. If I do renew, I'll have to make good on the resolution to visit three times a week, on the days when I don't have color-coding.

Have been asked to meet with Fr. Cielo of the Our Lady of the Angels Seminary. Meeting will be on Thursday, July 12; I've been invited to attend Fr. Cielo's Bible Study at the St. Anthony Shrine in Sampaloc, Manila, at 7.30PM. Will bring Ramon with me for company. The message was passed on by Angie Dy of Greenbelt, who roped me into the OLAS Franciscan gang in the first place. ::grin::

So that's where I'm headed for this week. I've got some more corrections on the dissertation to hand in by Wednesday the 11th, so will have to work on that too, tomorrow. Whee!

Time to sign off here and take a look at some of the anime I've downloaded.
