Bittersweet beginning to July
This morning our little Mai-mai kitten was hit by that idiot black car down the road that also killed Ninja and her kitten. I hope that rat bastard gets what's coming to him. According to the drivers next door, the driver is a speed freak; the fastest driver on the street. My poor sweet kitten-cat...fortunately Trixie isn't in panic mode wondering where he is, I don't think I could take it if she was.
Mama doesn't know. We (Ramon, me, and the maid) don't want to tell her that yet another family cat has been run over. We'll just let her think Mai-mai ran away - that will make her feel bad enough in itself.
Managed to have a nice day, despite the family tragedy. Dropped Ramon off at the jeepney stop so he could go for a haircut, and the parents and I went to Mass at Santuario. Afterwards, I sent an SMS to Ramon wondering where he was, and it turns out that he was on the MRT to TriNoMa (Triangle North of Manila), the new Ayala Land development in Quezon City!
So I cruised over there in the light EDSA traffic, and we met up at the *huge* National Bookstore. The mall is about half-occupied (Landmark still has to open its doors), but there is a Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, PowerBooks, and the anchor restaurants of Greenbelt and Glorietta (Heaven and Eggs, Teriyaki Boy, Super Bowl of China, Max's, Jollibee, McDonald's, ad infinitum).
We had lunch at Teriyaki Boy, where the food was up to standard. When we emerged from the restaurant, I was able to take some pictures of the mini-plaza area with its water feature that sends jets of water *upward* two levels to the concourse leading to the theater plaza. Sweet!
Rest stop at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, then a quick stop at Healthy Options for Ma to stock up on her vitamins and supplements. Saw a glucosamine cream that might work for Ramon's gimpy shoulder, but held off on buying it till the grocery money comes in.
Traffic home was a touch heavy, lots of congestion at the Cubao interchange. Otherwise, it was a breeze to get home.
Just came off the phone with Ryrie-chan, who is enslaved by a virus and is comforting herself with careful dosages of Nyquil so that she can get a good night's sleep. While talking to her, I came to the conclusion that Ramon needs a new laptop more than I need a new phone...all I need to do is remember to charge the N70 and I can live with it another year or two; heck, the thing isn't even a year old (I remember I bought it just before the Switzerland trip, September 2006)!
Ramon's laptop, on the other hand, is more than five years old and one of the corner hinges is broken, and it doesn't have built-in LAN, let alone built-in Bluetooth. It's time for a change in that direction - so come July, he'll have a nice new machine to play with, more hard drive space, and all the rest of it. Prices of laptops are going down, and it will be money well spent since it will be easier for him to go online. ::nods:;
So, yeah. That was today for the family. Now, I'm going to watch Oprah interview the cast of Wild Hogs.

I take comfort in the knowledge that karma will bite that person in the butt - HARD. I mean, if it were just the one cat, I could chalk it up to happenstance. But two of them, within 24 hours? That's deliberate. All the drivers here know that our house has lots of cats, and I've seen cars slow down when pregnant cats cross the road to us (even if they're not ours). How much does it take to slow down a car for fifteen seconds?
So, yeah. Karma in the butt, hard. With sharp little teeth.

*hugs*
Must also go hug my cats.

On the other hand, I do know that karma will come bite this idiot in the butt, with sharp teeth. Imagining what form this will take has done much to take me out of the dumps.
::sends love to all the cats and dogs in your vicinity::

Thank you. Ma is going to miss the small one at breakfast later - she always gave him a wrapper to play with and he loved to bat it all over the kitchen and living room. ::sigh::
Some day, that idiot driver is going to have a huge karmic pain in the butt for what he's done. Three cats in two months is so not coincidence.

Of course *accidentally* dropping a few nails in the road couldn't hurt either. (because sometimes karma needs a helping hand. . .)
