Short summary of the day

Brought Ma to the dentist, but he called to say he couldn't make it because of an emergency at home. Poor man, I hope he'll have good news when we finally do see him.

Had lunch at Italianni's, which consisted of the soup of the day (spinach romano), calamari and one of their new dishes which Ma, Ramon and I split between us. Turned out to be pretty good - though next time, I'll order a piccolo calamari instead.

Then home, where a good nap was had by one and all. Church for me and Ramon, and then a quick drive-by past Fully Booked at the Bonifacio High Street. Man, but that building is *sweet* at night. I'd love to take a walk down the High Street and take lots of pictures, yes, I would!

Back at home to eat dinner, figure out how to sleep in the humidity (this despite a goodly rain while we were eating, mind you), and a little online time. I was about to pack up for bed when my kumare calls and asks me to turn on my phone so she can wail at me via SMS about my goddaughter's close encounter with a mountainside.

See, it's like this. The goddaughter needed to collect water samples from various lakes. While accompanied by a friend and two Red Cross guides to one of the lakes, she slipped off the mountain trail and were it not for God's grace and a well-placed boulder, would likely have ended up at the bottom of said mountain. Of course, not being her mother, once I ascertained that goddaughter was generally whole and entire and none the worse for slip sliding away down the mountain, was rather calm about the whole thing. Kumare, on the other hand, appeared to be a nervous wreck - but then, as I said, the impact is different when it is one's own child.

Thing is, I tend to take the attitude that as long as the girl managed to make it out in one piece, the best thing to do is thank God and move on. Which tends to come across as cavalier to some...but that can't be helped, unfortunately.

So off to sleep now.
