Changing pace and yesterday's recap (Test post with Journler)

Well, missed Mass this morning - that's what you get for getting up at 4.00AM with the cats, turn on the TV and get hooked by the US Open. ::grin:: Fell back asleep after getting Ramon's blood sugar reading at 6.00AM, and woke up at 8.45AM. Asked Ramon if he wanted to go to the 10.30AM Mass, and he decided he wanted to spend the day in. So here we are.

I checked my LJ and it turns out I missed posting for yesterday (June 16). Funny, it seems longer than that. The main event of yesterday, anyway, was my attending the wake of the mother of a dear friend of mine. It seems like only a few days ago I learned that her last check-up showed her to be in stable condition from chemotherapy, and then the next thing I know, there's an SMS telling me she passed away.

In any case, it was good to see my friend and his siblings, even under such circumstances. Marriage agrees with him and his sister; they each have one daughter, and my friend's wife is 5.5 months along with their second. The youngest sib has grown up in interesting ways - I didn't recognize him at ALL. ::dies:: It was also good to see other friends and talk about old times, catch up on present times. Especially in the light of all the emo upheavals I've been having lately, being in good company was a soothing thing.

The funeral was this noon. I will light candles for the repose of the departed's soul.

Went to Mercury Drug to refill some of Ramon's prescriptions, and then to Rustan's to pick up white sugar and aluminum baking tins for the oven toaster. I have this bread mix to bake, and the amount is way too small for our gas oven, so into the oven toaster it goes, with many prayerful apologies to Padre Pio and the hope that the bread will turn out all right.

On the parental front - the yelling phase appears to have stopped. Ditto for the flinging of wild accusations in my direction. Chill civility prevails, whereby the parents talk to me, more or less, and Ma refuses to talk to Dad. Oye. Dad was trying to drag Ramon into things by making him an arbiter - as if my husband had any clue about the issues being dragged into the open this past week! ::cuddles hubby::

All is calm for the moment. Everyone appears to have reached an entente cordiale of sorts, and I am grateful. When the person you're trying to reach just won't listen to you, then it's time to let things drop, is my philosophy. Unfortunately, it's a concept Dad can't seem to understand, so there we are.

In techno-geek news. Journler is nice for posting to WordPress. I've found work-arounds for some of my posting issues, but what I do like about it is having a backup copy of one's entry before it gets online. That way, you don't lose a word until you delete your Journlr copy. However, for LiveJournal, Phoenix gives more control over LJ-codes, which means I'll have two journal apps running parallel for quite a bit.

Posted some stuff for sale on BidShot, no bites yet. This after two successive postings on eBay. I guess if BidShot doesn't turn up any buyers, then the magazines are going to charity. The digicam...can stay home for a while longer, maybe. We shall see.

I haven't put anything into my needlepoint project lately. I should fix that. The trade-off was working on Journlr to post up some additional entries for the 1984 travel blog, so I'm not too bothered by it.

Oh, and I've started using WebKit nightly builds to surf the intarwebz. I'm almost sure that I posted this bit of information already, but my brain cells are fudging. (Which reminded me to go dash outside and warm up the genset, which I was supposed to do last Wednesday and yesterday...whee!) WebKit is slightly faster than Safari, though I'm pretty sure there are some bells and whistles in-built that I haven't discovered yet. Maybe it's time that I did.
