Now that I am out of the hospital, what?
I managed to DO things! Don't anyone think that being an only daughter automatically means being cosseted and told to take things easy after getting out of the hospital. Because no one will look after the cats but me and Ramon - we had to make an emergency run to the pet supply store to get food for the kitties, who were down to their last few meals. So that was OK.
Then Dad, who said I was supposed to take charge of whether the cook stayed or went, proceeded to make the cook's life so difficult that she announced that she was going to leave. Of course if you ask him about it, he'll give you a different story - but that's Dad. Somehow we have to live with it. Long story short - the cook left, and the maid who was her companion left with her, which startled Dad but not me. That afternoon we were at the employment agency where we picked up two new househelp. Long story short - Jane is turning out to be a biddable and industrious girl but cannot cook to save our lives; Cleta left after collecting her Christmas bonus but not an advancee on her salary, which we do not allow. She had a nice cover story: wanted to visit her five kids and the tomb of her dead husband. The replacement, Leni, wasn't much better - could clean but could barely cook, and never came back from her day off.
So now we are in the market for a maid. I would like to have a part-time cook but parents are against the idea of live-out help; so we make do.
We made it through the Christmas and New Year festivities - nearly forgot to pick up the ham because of brains taking a flitting; but i did get it. I also did the gifting rounds of the doctors, the maintenance crew, the owner of the department store who gives us a basket every year (this year we gave his supermarket a lot to be thankful for, believe me), and various other folks. The messengers got their tips, which was a photo finish thing (and now that the tipping season is over, the ATM gives out crispy new bills, WAT),
OK. I have to cut this short and fix up lunch. It will have to be reheated spaghetti and roast chicken again.
1:13 PM Additional Stuff -
Dad needs Aspilets. I can go out later and he'll have to stuff it. I know it sounds harsh but I need to think of myself too and making a trip for just one item is the pits. At least later I'll be better rested.
Let's see. I've covered the maid situation. We got the Christmas light up before Christmas - only just. Somehow the brand-new strings of lights from last year got misplaced and the multiple socket as well. A quick run to True Value at Plaza San Antonio (yay!) took care of that problem. Got rid of the huge Pampanga-style lantern that over the years has come down to three working bulbs. Our setup is more streamlined now, next year will be better. THERE WILL BE WINDOW DRESSING, BY GOD.
I need an external keyboard for this laptop. The cursor just keeps moving at random intervals and the screen scrolls on its own. The spirit of the laptop is a mischievous thing...ok. I tweaked the keyboard settings. Hopefully things will improve.

Seeing that I had the maintenance crew over, I scheduled any number of odd jobs for them to do. There is a new curtain rod over the bedroom door, and a new curtain to give us privacy without cutting off the air circulation in the summer months. The insect lamps had their bulbs replaced and cleaned. One of the chairs of the dining room got repaired, and all is well.
My room and the bills that need to be filed are competing for the title of Things that Are Overdue For Cleanup, Sorting, and Putting Away. It is not helping that I have a new Kobo in the house, plus my old Samsung tablet, PLUS my fairly new 9in tablet whose direct-to-current plug broke on me and only now did I realize that it would work with a USB plug....*facepalm* So I have shiny toys to play Candy Crush on. Currently stuck at level 38 but that's ok. The point is, everything works.
So I guess I'm going to have me a little nap now, then go out to the drugstore, which, thank God, is not far from the village gate. Or I may end up in Alphaland, depending on my mood. Though the drugstore has free parking, Alphaland has a CD-R King and an ATM which I do need, but not urgently. We'll see.
Hopefully there won't be as long a gap between entries next time, eh? I missed you guys. Catch you soon!
