The weirdest thing happened. See, I was using Opera as my main browser because the default on my Puppy Linux install, Seamonkey, wouldn't render Japanese properly.
I opened it just now, because I was having trouble installing the latest version of Opera, and...the Japanese font now renders just fine.
*scratches head*
