(no subject)

Been a week since I last wrote; seems longer. The heat seems to have taken away all but the most basic functions. But for all that, I've been getting things done, and that's always a good thing.

Spring-cleaning happened. Basically I rearranged my book cabinets to start with. This turned up various books that were designated for charity (I don't think that Ramon's true crime books will ever make it to the church box, however), and by dint of heroic willpower, I did not crack open some rediscovered favorites until after I'd done rearranging.

My printer reached the end of its life, so it went into the rubbish. I have sourced out a new printer/CISS from the stall in Cash and Carry that deals in such - it's a package deal with warranty and repairs, for 6,000 pesos. No, I haven't bought it, as we are surviving quite nicely without a printer. Soon, though.

Mama had her 90th birthday on the 4th. We just went to church and had lunch at home; at the last minute she balked at going out. *sigh* Well, the KFC bucket meal I ordered made her happy - that and the free birthday cake from City Hall. So it was all good.

The eco-aide passed by and I made 50 pesos from all the recyclables. Not bad.

Our clothes rack reached the end of its life as well, so that went to the recyclables. In its place now is a new plastic storage unit - two drawers on the top level and a freestyle cabinet at the bottom. Suddenly our room (a) looks a whole lot more decent than formerly, and (b) the cubbyholes now look distinctly seedy. Will need to buy another set of plastic drawers and consign the knockdown parts to the recyclables.

Corollary: rearranged the furniture in the room. Our best electric fan sits on top of the cabinet, resulting in better ventilation. The other electric fan is in the maids' room. I cannot wait for summer to end, the heat is really, really debilitating. Ramon is on doctor's orders to keep cool, so if we're out, we spend the hottest hours of the day in the mall. It works, since we usually get the groceries done, and lunch out besides.

Two cupcake shops are doing rather well in the new Glorietta - Vanilla Cupcake Bakery and Cupcakes by Sonja. I have tried both, and find I keep gravitating to Vanilla Cupcake. It's sort of trying to look like a maid cafe? Anyway, by the end of the month, they're going to move into two new locations in the mall, the better to spread the love. Seriously, I have a serious liking for the Coffee Walnut Salted Caramel. Also the Butter Toffee.

To date, have given two boxes of old but usable stuff to the church Caritas box. Am wondering if I should rid the room of our old mattress and give THAT away to the church as well. Stuff has to go, it's just a matter of getting to it and sorting. I mean, I have clothes that were new in 1990 - they still fit, and look good, but they're for cold weather (my "winter clothes" when travelling) and I 'm not likely to be going anywhere far in the near future, given my current circumstances. Time to let go. *nods*

Got ourselves a new maid, the former one suddenly decided she needed to be with her family. At least she lasted for five months, during which period I feel I made definite progress in my physical and emotional recovery after the traumas of the last two years. Here's hoping the new one will last longer.

Oh, I went back to wearing contacts, but only for distance. I have reading glasses for use over the contacts. I find it more comfortable this way, because I only need to take out the glasses when I actually read. I now have hydrogel lenses, which are a whole other thing from the old hydrophilic lenses I used to use. They're very comfortable, I'll that much.

Huh. Looks like a lot of stuff managed to happen, after all. Mother's Day, we spent at home - though Ramon and I were early at Makati Med for his fasting blood sugar extraction. Breakfast at Andok's, popped in to The Generics Pharmacy to get some of Ramon's meds, and then home again for a nap to beat all naps. Then life as usual.

Tomorrow is Election Day. Ramon and I will go out and vote early, and then monitor the conduct of elections on TV. Popcorn night! :)

Hah, sa init na 'to, parang potpot na kotse ang takbo - mas mabilis yata ang tricycle sa akin. *grin*

At bakit kung kelan tapos ako maligo, na-inspire ako mag-ayos ng mga bin, carton, at furniture? Labo, no?

Anyhow, it is amazing how much better everything looks now. It's not House Beautiful, but at least it's neater than before.

Naku, si Daddy talaga. Saying as how Ramon and I had to vote early because it's dangerous out - anuvah, in DASMA? Halur, parang event ng social season, aba lahat ng mga donya ay chikka-beso habang maghintay magboto. Paano, he was watching the morning news and was saying a lot of people died in Batangas, which yes, it's awful but we are not in the immediate vicinity of the troubles, so why?

Now I go bath. And will get more inspiration on what to put on my to-do list. :)
