First of April - another chance to start fresh (written yesterday)

Today is a confluence of interesting things: April Fools' (be careful
about whoopee cushions and their ilk), Palm Sunday (hubby is humming
"Ho-sanna Hey-sanna" from Jesus Christ Superstar), and grocery day.

By the grace and gift of God, we seem to have finally found household
staff that suit us. Vicki is a bustling little thing that has managed
to clean out the detritus left behind by previous maids; and after
some initial adjustment pains with Ma, the household cleaning routine
appears to be running smoothly again. Michelle is also efficient with
keeping the kitchen and laundry area clean; the fact that she has
excellent cooking skills is a godsend. Let's put it this way, she's
the kind of cook that makes you want to buy good ingredients, knowing
they won't be spoiled. Plus, she knows how to estimate just how much
to cook per meal, so we have hardly any leftovers now.

In the time that they have been here, I have managed to pay off my
sleep debts (if alas, not all of my financial ones) and I now have a
cautiously optimistic outlook on how life will turn out. Also, I have
remembered to start taking vitamins on a regular basis, to get rid of
the run-down feeling that has been with me since I had my own
financial crash. Feeling physically better certainly does a lot for
feeling emotionally better.

I came into a kind of windfall the other week. PLDT sent a letter to
my dad saying they wanted to buy back certain series of subscriber
stock. Now why the letter was addressed to Dad when Ma is the
subscriber of record, I am sure I do not know. Nor do I know why is
it that they do not have any stock certificates while I do (they came
with my landline, back in the day). In any event, after assembling
the necessary support documents, off I went to redeem the shares, and
came into a tidy little amount at then end of the process. Today I
paid off the first of the April bills, and there is a nice feeling of
relief, knowing there's money left over after that.

Parents went through the passport process - Ma to renew, Dad to get a
new one (he's a dual citizen, for some strange reason he wants a
Philippine passport in addition to his US passport). Thank heavens the
Department of Foreign Affairs saw fit to set up a mobile office at San
Lorenzo Village, so that the senior cits didn't have to go to the main
DFA office at the reclaimed area, like I had to do last year.

Oh eek, have to stop here. Have to get ready for Mass.
