Checking in
Hi all, guess who's delurking from behind the brush?
Not wanting to cause wrinkles or gray hairs for anyone, I'm popping up to say that life has been ... difficult ... since I last showed up. Typical "when it rains" stuff - financial tangles, family issues, and to crown it all, two of my cats needed the vet. In the space of 2.5 weeks ...
Our Q-bie, the acknowledged princeling of our house, went from a bouncy baby boy to a listless little baby over the course of two days. At first we thought it was a chill - the weather around here is setting up for a tropical Christmas - but on the third day of nothing but purring and a bare interest in food, I had him off for a checkup.
Turned out Q-bie had jaundice. @__@ Liver problem! They kept him at the clinic for three days at first, on an IV drip to flush out the excess bile. Which meant Ramon and I were visiting our babiest baby morning and evening so he wouldn't feel confused and lost at being left there. When Q-bie realized the vet assistant was carrying him somewhere without me, his "MARMAR! MARMAAAAR!" miaow was heartbreaking. When we saw him that first night he was all hunched up in his cage ... but after I left him his kibble and petted him, he settled down soon enough.
By the third day he was greeting us at every visit; but he had to stay three more days because the key liver enzyme was still high. By the sixth day he had a fans club among the vets and their assistants for being such a good patient. *grin* Vet sent him home with normal signs and take home meds. Am happy to report that Q-bie is once more a bouncy baby boy who knows what syringes are for and promptly puts on his "MARMAR DO NOT WANT" face when it's time for his meds; though he doesn't struggle at all, the sweetie!
Then just as we were going to take Pickles in for spaying, her brother Patpat started going all listless on us as well ... just as we'd got Q-bie home, mercy upon us! He crawled on top of the potatoes in the veggie basket and wouldn't budge, emitting piteous little sounds whenever I offered him food (which, thankfully, he continued to eat, or I would have had a nervous breakdown). So once we'd dropped Pickles off for spaying, Patpat had a checkup.
Turned out he had an abscess. @__@ Ugh, nasty thing, it had to be lanced and drained of all the evil infection. But at least we were able to take him home, along with antibiotics; we picked up Pickles later in the day, so now we are free of kitty population spurts until the next generation of females need to be spayed. Patpat is now walking around after being petted and fussed over and medicated. Like Q-bie, he knows what the syringe and antibiotic tube are for, but doesn't make too much of a fuss when the meds are administered.
Unlike Budi-luv, who lets the whole world know that I DO NOT WANT THIS INDIGNITY HOW DARE YOU DO THIS WHY MARMAR WHY. *rolls eyes to heaven*
So this writing is the first day I have had at home with nothing to do but rest, and I have missed all of you so much. My brains are slowly returning to me, and life is good. Definitely better for the moment than it has been in a very long time. I have a new slow cooker - the old one's porcelain pot developed a crack and was slow leaking; but heaven only knows where I can find the service center, let alone the spare part. It was easier to just buy a new one. *chuckle*
Hopefully it won't be long till the next check-in. Meantime, am catching up like a fiend with everyone on the blog circuit.

Yup, it's been quite the month, definitely! But all's well that ends well - this morning, in response to Patpat's pleading, I let him out into the laundry area after his medications, keeping an eye out for his nemeses. It warms the heart, to see him stretch and walk around, before settling under the bench. Tart and Pebbles are learning that confrontations with Patpat = Marmar saying DO NOT WANT, BAD CAT. So they are behaving for the moment.
Q-bie the Universally Beloved is napping somewhere. So his morning meds will become his lunchtime meds, the naughty boy. *grin* Life is good!

Ahahhaa remember to take that moment to breathe, because I don't think it will last all that long!

This is my third day of being housebound after all the to-do, and let me say that it is a blessed thing. The one maid is not exactly happy that I am around 24/7 to fuss about all the corners in the house she missed while ostensibly cleaning the room, but that's the way it goes.
Hubby is enjoying my cooking experiments; this is also a good thing. *grin* Chicken fingers for lunch (ready-made from the chicken counter at the supermarket), and slow-cooker meatballs (my own invention) for dinner. I am crossing my fingers that the meatballs hold their shape. Used flour instead of pangko/Japanese breadcrumbs for the binder, and it doesn't feel right. Ah well. Whatever happens, the end product will be edible. LOL.

I seem to have found the plug in my throat that keeps making my throat itch, leading to coughing spells that make me sound like I have something nasty. Blargh. And of course expectorant makes me cough all the more. Yeehah. NOT.

We did that when our other cat, Buding, was confined; in the case of Q-bie, the look of utter bewilderment on his face when we arrived that first night? D'AWWWW. Then the way it changed to relief when he realized we were there? More D'AWWWW. Poor babykins. By the third day, he was sitting up to greet us and making it plain that he wanted to go out and go home. So what did I do but buy a walking harness, and we strolled him in the hallways, carrying his IV, IDEK?
Well, it did help that the vet is only about ten minutes drive from the house. I owe them a box of pastries this Christmas, for all they've done this year.
