Event of the Day: Onwards with the restoration of lost documents...other stuff happened at home, like one of the wall sockets apparently shorting out, so it was a good thing we had the maintenance crew here fixing up the lanai roof. The only appliance affected is what we fondly refer to as the "baby ref", as opposed to our main refrigerator in the kitchen. This was a prize Dad won back when he was a more active golfer than he is now; it's just right for stuff that my parents like to nom on for snacks, and Dad's vitamins

First stop of the day was the barangay office. Armed with Ramon's Affidavit of Loss and his driver's license, he filled up the forms for all his senior citizen benefits and we are to claim them on Friday.

Next, lunch at Bubba Gump - Ramon has been jonesing for shrimps in a very serious way, and after all he's been through with me in these past weeks, he was entitled to something he could really enjoy. We had the Ping Pong Shrimp and the calamares, and split a bowl of clam chowder and an order of jasmine rice. The lunch cost almost the same as the merienda in Burgoo the day before; yet we were more satisfied (read: bondat/full to the gills) this time around. Go figure.

Then, off to the Avant Store on the Greenbelt 4 bridgeway. Looked at something to go with the SIM card for my mobile phone, and wound up with a Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000. Yes, it's not the model that comes with Gingerbread Android, but what the heck, the shiny factor is something in the mega range. It is *beautiful* - I can read Twitter on it without eyestrain!! (Yes, you might be correct in assuming that that was one of the major factors in my choice of phone.) As far as I am concerned, it is a BAMF of a phone; I put it on wifi mode in the house and it swooshed its way through upgrade and downloads. *now understands why Angry Birds is so addicting, DON'T JUDGE ME*

In fact, I think everything about that phone deserves a separate entry, up to and including my thoughts on this whole being stolen from experience.

The next priority was getting a replacement SIM for my mobile landline (and while standing in line I realized I needed a new cellphone, OY). This was a painless procedure and fairly quick. The PLDT Business Center at the Ramon Cojuangco Building has always been good to me, and I like their new look.

Then Greenbelt 5, where Ramon had been patiently waiting at the Concierge lounge area. I think Greenbelt should replace those benches with some of the couches that disappeared from the second floor. I know the mall tries to discourage loitering, but there has to be a place for seniors to sit that won't kill their backs. Popped into Greenbelt 1 and the phone tiangge to get "clothes" for the Galaxy Tab, to wit, a screen protector and a leather case. Also, a basic Nokia (B/W screen, good for talk and text) for the mobile landline SIM. This other SIM is only good for calls and nothing else, not even texting, so it doesn't need to be a kickass phone. Of course, it needed a pouch and a hand strap for it to be a complete ensemble.

That done, we made for home - and humidity. Oh, the humidity. Still can't move five inches away from an electric fan without breaking out into literal sweatdrops. Which is why I cherish my pre-bedtime showers very much.

So far, the running tally on restored documents is as follows:
** Driver's License
** Mobile phone SIM card
** Ramon's senior benefits (out on Friday)
** Samsung Galaxy Tab for mobile communications
** Mobile landline SIM card
** Nokia for mobile landline calls
** Accessories for new gadgets

Life is rolling right along. Tomorrow I check my bank branch in Santuario to see if I can get my new ATM cards, replace my Mercury Drug Suki Card and Rustan's Fresh Card. So far, so good!

Awesome! Do let us know how the Tab is for reading and calls!

OK, I've been using the Tab with the home wifi, and dear heavens, but it makes a body just want to cocoon in bed with the thing. I've tried the native ebook reader and the results look pretty good after a few pages. I'll see if my opinion changes after reading a whole book on it.

The Twitter feed and GMail are beeautiful. (Yes, I'm leaving the typo in, that's pretty much my reaction. *grin*) So nice to be able to do basic mobile internet without having to squint or scroll.

Today I got my first phone call - from Dad, telling me the last credit card replacement I was waiting on, came in the mail this afternoon. Used the earpiece, and reception was very good. On the other hand, I was in SM Makati and he was in Dasma, so maybe proximity contributed. Will have to try something over a longer distance to get a better idea.

I'm beginning to believe what some folks say, that this kicks the iPad's butt enough to hurt, but not enough to kill it. As it is, it is pretty much the phone I always wanted. (Random: maybe my bag getting stolen was God's way of pushing me to get it, thus answering my prayers in a very mysterious way? As He does. *chuckle*)

Am reading reviews and such on the forums. Want to maximize the use of this thing. Bought an 8GB card for it, am passing on the bluetooth headset for a while.

*glee*
