Event of the Day/2011-Apr-12

My Qbie stayed out all night. *sigh* my wee bebeh is all grown-up now.
At least he showed up for breakfast and cuddled with me before I left
for a stockholders' meeting this morning.

No searching for Mocha today. Ramon was getting worryingly grey around
the edges, and much as I love and desperately miss our missing darling,
it won't do him any good if "parpar" is back in the hospital. *sniffle*

Ramon did accompany me to the bonesetter, where several clicks put my
joints back where they should be and got rid of the chest pains I'd been
feeling all week. Then we picked up sugar and ampalaya (bitter gourd)
at Waltermart. I also acquired a new ebook reader from CD-R King that
doubles as a gorgeous video player. Then we went home, where lots of
sleep was had by all.

Hm. I hear lots of sirens floating in on the wind. Wonder what that's
all about - hopefully not a fire.

I noticed you got a new e-book reader from CD-R King. Did you get the 5" or the 7"? I've been thinking of getting one myself soon-ish. Can you listen to MP3s and read books at the same time? that's a major selling point for me.

a) I got the 7-inch version. The last time I was in Waltermart, I went to the CD-R King there, and the ebook readers were at eye level there, rather than in the stratosphere of the other branches I visit (Cash and Carry, I'm looking at you with a stiff neck, yo).

b) I haven't tried playing MP3s while reading...I keep my music on the PSP now. But reviews seem to indicate that it's not really a good idea.

c) Reviews about the unit you may want to read before plunking down cash for the e-reader:

review by an LJ/Twitter friend of mine (http://charles-tan.blogspot.com/2011/02/review-cd-r-king-sb-96-7-inches-tft.html)
review from technoodling.net (http://technoodling.net/review-cd-r-kings-multimedia-ebook-reader/)
review from www.techie.com.ph (http://www.techie.com.ph/news/p3-990-cd-r-king-ebook-reader-is-a-kindle-look-alike)

d) My own experience with the thing so far is that it's quite satisfactory. I just finished trying out the video function with a couple of TV episodes I converted from our DVR player.

I didn't have much of a problem actually reading the ebooks I loaded onto it, but the rendering isn't very consistent. Am experimenting with my Calibre ebook manager to see if I can't fix this. Typical CD-R King, when it works, it works...if it doesn't, either you invest time tweaking your input, or it turns diabolical.

OH! You will have to figure out/get used to just how long you need to hold the on/off switch so that the unit turns on.

Thanks for the input! I appreciate it. :)
