I have only one thing to say about this set of tweets: GO AZKAlS! *happy dance*

For my non-Pinoy friends, the Azkals are our national football team. Currently gaining lots of adulation for (a) reaching the semi-finals at the Suzuki Cup, and trouncing Mongolia at last night's home game in the first round of another league; and (b) having some of the handsomest players around. Our striker Phil Younghusband, is a cutie! *huge grin*

Considering that footie gets next to no attention in this basketball-crazy country, the interest these guys are generating in "the beautiful game" is a wonderful thing.

The retweet about our President's sister Kris is quite barbed, given that she has a very colorful history as far as relationships with men are concerned. Colorful - and quite public, since she is a TV host and considered a celebrity in local showbiz.

Heh... I've lived here in Manila for almost four years and I didn't know there was a soccer team at all.

You're right, basketball fever overshadows every other sport... well.. except boxing.

Hah - not only do we have a soccer team (Azkals), we also have a rugby team (Philippine Volcanos)! Yes, a real, live rugby team. Thank you Jessica Zafra, for writing about them, or I would never have known of their existence - and I do like a good soccer match. Rugby I need to learn more about. *huge grin*

Pacquiao - oh, good heavens. I should think that having gotten himself elected into public office, he should show his face in Congress and his constituency as often as he's seen on TV. Which is pretty often, given how ABS-CBN seems to have put Dyan Castillejo on permanent detail on him. *snork*

Yes, he's a great boxer and all that. But if you run on a platform of serving the people, then by gum, you should *serve when elected*, right?

I dated a rugby player when I went to NCSU... yes over there the women play Rugby. :D

Rugby is the predecessor to American Football but with more rules and less padding.

Pacquiao is such a media whore. He endorses EVERYTHING under the sun and its like nobody realizes how much that cheapens every brand that he defaces.

I just want to know how anyone can serve in congress and still be an athlete or an actor. Both professions take a lot of time and attention to rehearse/train and then be on set/compete.

Look at Schwarzenegger. Once he became the Govenator he stopped acting except for a brief cameo appearance in The Expendables. (which he used a grand total of 3 hours out of the day to do)

Oh well, better he be an absent moron than a thieving coward I suppose.
