the monitor i sent in for repair is ready for pick-up.

but now my landline phone is acting funky and the printer with the continuous ink is saying a) the PC doesn't recognize the ink and b) the printer itself is short on ink.

*wibble* i think i'd better try the troubleshooting again tomorrow.

oh, i did mention the water tank gate valve joint popped a leak this morning and the crew will be in tomorrow to fix it, right?

*snif*

Me: *indulging in wailing over tetchy electronic stuff and shoestring budget*

Hubby: Well, darling, you know what they say, when it rains...

Me: Actually, you going to the ER, that would be pouring. This is just a drizzle, and the tank gets fixed tomorrow. It just gets frustrating.

Hubby: It will work out. C'mon, let's order something from Jollibee or McDo. That fixes everything.

oh dear!

i took a look at all the twitter logs that have been sitting in the email program and it boggles my mind - almost a week of them!

Will have to try and get a start on putting them up. Though I doubt I'll remember much about the furthest entries.

Event of the Day: Miss Universe 2011, and the country all agog over our candidate after the near miss at the title by Venus Raj (she of the "major major" fame) last year. This year Shamcey Supsup was a crowd favorite and did well enough to make the cut into the final five.

Then when it came to the Q&A portion, people wibbled. I'm not sure which side wibbled more: the ones who thought the question was dicey (but isn't that the way it's supposed to be?), or the ones who thought the answer was good but somehow not good enough. In any case, Shamcey ended as 3rd runner-up, a respectable enough placement.

It didn't take long for the armchair pundits to start analysing the results to shreds. Ms. Angola, personally, I find a sweet-faced young woman who had a good answer for the question. Between the time it took Shamcey to leave Sao Paulo and get back to Manila, a hoax went viral over Twitter, claiming that Oprah thought our lass should have won. *eyeroll* Naturally, Oprah's camp denied any such statement, and pointed to Oprah's official site as the last word on the subject.

Shamcey has come home to a rousing welcome. Confetti the like of which was last seen during the Cory Aquino campaign, is said to have littered her parade route. She has revealed that there is a significant other in her life - to the disappointment of her male admirers and the utter surprise of her papa. Having seen the lucky man on TV, I can say that he is personable enough for public view. *grin* After all, in matters of the heart, as long as they're suited, that's all that matters. Plus, the man in question has presented himself to Shamcey's dad and is now an accepted part of the family.

The rest of the day seemed rather anti-climactic after the live telecast. Lea Salonga didn't have half as much exposure as I would have wanted; that said, I'm glad she got picked to ask one of the final questions or we'd have had just that brief glimpse of her being introduced as a judge. I am in awe at the factoid presented that those competition bikinis actually had fabric *added* to the original design. ADDED. Given how Shamcey is described as having a "tsunami" walk - and oh how the undulations made that bikini look perilous! - I cannot even *begin* to imagine how much SMALLER the original might have been!

But then...Brazil, yeah? Home of the tanga. So not really surprising. But still...

Event of the Day: getting a text message from the secretary of our historical society, that I was supposed to be at the Senate Building to visit Senators Trillanes and Sotto in order to ask for project funds. Cue me going into a momentary freak at the timely reminder, since I had planned for a totally different afternoon once we'd dropped off Ma's PT.

So I did a little schedule-shifting in my head, Ramon and I went to eat lunch at the Blue Wave Shakey's, I left Ramon at SM Mall of Asia, and arrived at the Senate front door at least a half-hour early. We ended up at Senator Trillanes' office and were allowed to see him even though he was supposed to be on his way to the session hall! Thus he was given the drive-by explanation of who we were, what we wanted, and where the money would be going. The Senator said he would forward it to his legal team and they would see where in their budget it would be legal to release money - if any. OK, a case of "don't call us, we'll call you".

Thankfully, considering my opinions about the RH Bill, we met with the chief of staff of Senator Sotto. He was a very nice man - he even gave us merienda! We were, in the end, advised to address a letter to the Senator requesting a specific amount of money; on the way to that end, however, we had a nice discussion on history and historical gossip. My feeling is that we may have managed to make ourselves a friend, and this is good.

Having done with the Senate, I met Ramon at the Pet Express in the Mall of Asia - bless them for having a bench outside the store for the dear man to sit and wait for me. The nice young man who takes care of me in the Pet Express at the Makati Hypermart was in the store, so was able to get my 2 sacks of Kitty's Crumble and a sack of Friskies, plus assorted goodies, into the car without too much stress on Ramon's part.

After that, a fly-by visit to Healthy Options, by way of the Greenbelt driveway. The rush-hour traffic was just starting, so it wasn't too much trouble to convince the guard to let me park the car on the lay-by while I literally dashed into Healthy Options and back out again.

Then home, to start feeling aches and pains and read about how Shalani Soledad (ex-girlfriend of President Aquino) has gotten herself engaged to be married. Husband goes, "Well, at least it's not Willie..." (Willie=Willie Revillame, a game show host of dubious reputation but nevertheless extremely popular on TV.)

Events of the Day: After all the running around the day before, Ramon and I stayed home. It was nice to be able to have a power nap, even though I could see the laundry literally turning into a mountain before my very eyes.

Bonded with the games on the Tabbie. *looks innocent* Kept an eye on the news as well, dominated as it was with discussions about our Miss Philippines' answer to her Miss Universe question. Tried to get some stuff done on the desktop, with moderate success.

Slept a lot, as I sometimes do on stay-home days. Prepping for the trip to Divisoria and calculating just exactly how much stuff I need to buy, and factor in a little excess as well. I remember someone on Twitter saying that in their house, they intone "Christmas is coming" in the same way one would sound out the words of House Stark. I totally agree.

Trying not to be Scrooge-y about it, though. The world has enough of that as it is. In the end, things will work out, and we will be grateful.

Event of the Day: Ramon's blood test and Divisoria shopping day. The latter went much more smoothly than the former, given that the computerized queue system at the Makati Med pathology lab was down and needed about three reboots to get back to bare minimum.

Got out of Makati Med, Ramon had a good lab tech that got the right amount of blood with a minimum of pain. Dropped him at the PNR station while I tucked the car away at Cash n Carry - the guard was surprised to see me so early in the morning, but totally understood when I explained my intentions. Managed to catch up with Ramon just as the 8.45am train (supposedly the 8.30am train) arrived, so we caught that, and found ourselves in Tutuban in about half an hour or so.

Walked nice and slowly along the side of the Tutuban Mall, and had ourselves breakfast at the Chow King. Once breakfast had settled, we used the public washrooms in the Mall (2nd floor stairs beside the McDonald's, follow the directional signs) before moving out into Recto. Hubby was looking a bit green about the gills, so we walked at a snail's pace - fortunately there were lots of clouds and a strong breeze to keep him cool.

Dear heavenly days, but what an assortment of goods there are! Good stuff from Php100-120 starting price. Picked up five pillowcases for Php100, to share with Ma. Strolled down towards Tabora and my eyes nearly fell out at the sight of all the fabric and sewing materials available. A set of two pillowcases and a fitted sheet for Php150 - great for Christmas gifting if you knew what size bed you were buying for.

Discovered my suki in Juan Luna was renovating, but still managed to get white t-shirts at wholesale prices. Will try to canvass further down the road next year, for curiousity's sake. After the shirts, we worked our way back to Recto, and ate at this place called Chic-Boy, which serves chicken inasal and pork belly. Ramon found a seat near the fan, and we made a good meal of it; since it was closing in on 12 noon, we had managed to get out of the humidity and heat at just the right time.

After lunch, we rambled down Recto, where I discovered what must be the duster emporium of Metro Manila - Php100 for something pretty and comfortable to wear, is not bad at all. Walked into one of the cluster buildings by mistake, and discovered a cooler way through it that took us back to Tutuban Mall. We walked down the main hallway, stopped and took turns going to the washroom (and I must say that the washroom is tidy enough, given the human traffic that must go through there).

And then I decided to look through a rack of blouses and ended up getting five new additions to my wardrobe for only Php100 each. I may be queen of Php100 purchases by the time Christmas comes around. *grin*

We barely caught the 1pm departure out of Tutuban Station, and were back in Makati in almost no time at all. Left Ramon at the corner of Buendia and the South Superhighway, together with all the baggage; went into Cash via the side door, bought bottled water and Coke and used the washroom before retrieving the car.

Picked up hubby, went home, turned on the heater and had me a lovely shower with hot water to wash off all the grime and sweat. Felt like a totally new human being - and very, very sleepy. It was a good day; Ma was happy with the stuff I got for her, and am totally looking forward to the rest day tomorrow.

Event of the Day: Rest and tidying up various odds and ends. Sleeping was the theme of the day. Woke up early, took a catnap. Had breakfast and a shower, morning convo with Ma, and another nap. Woke up in time for lunch and then got online using the desktop. Another nap after merienda and up again before dinner.

Did the prep work for taking Biskwit and Pixie to the CARA clinic for spaying. Poor wee loves are not happy with the idea of fasting after 9pm, but that is what has to be done.

Then I get a text from CARA saying that I can bring the cats in by 2pm instead of 7am. Which rather throws me for a loop, but in the end, I am allowed to bring them in by 7am and their operation will be at 2pm; so that's time to have breakfast at Jollibee Cash, do the groceries, and bring said groceries home, where we will wait for the call telling us we can pick up the little darlings.

I will be glad when all this running about will be done with. *nods*

Event of the day: Spaying for Pixie and Biskwit. Dropped them off at 7am, picked them up at 6pm. In-between, had breakfast, did the groceries, went home, did the laundry, slept the sleep of righteous.

Was somewhat zombiefied by the end of the day, but since the bebehs are recovering nicely, it was all worth it. And we'll never have to worry about what to do with a new influx of kittens! *relief* The next two scheduled for spaying are Pickles, once she has weaned her new set of kittens, and little Guapa from Pica's last litter. And then we can get out from under the sword of Damocles that is wondering when one of our girls will fall preggers!
